Greeting to Gaius from the Elder

(2 John 1:1-3)

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
1The elder, To my dear friend Gaius, whom I love in the truth.1The elder to the beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth.1The elder to the beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth.1The elder unto the wellbeloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth.1The Elder: To my dear friend Gaius: I love you in the truth.
2Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.2Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul.2Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers.2Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.2Dear friend, I pray that you may prosper in every way and be in good health physically just as you are spiritually.
3It gave me great joy when some believers came and testified about your faithfulness to the truth, telling how you continue to walk in it.3For I rejoiced greatly when the brothers came and testified to your truth, as indeed you are walking in the truth.3For I was very glad when brethren came and testified to your truth, that is, how you are walking in truth.3For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.3For I was very glad when some brothers came and testified to your faithfulness to the truth--how you are walking in the truth.
4I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.4I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.4I have no greater joy than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth.4I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.4I have no greater joy than this: to hear that my children are walking in the truth.

Gaius' Example of Hospitality

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
5Dear friend, you are faithful in what you are doing for the brothers and sisters, even though they are strangers to you.5Beloved, it is a faithful thing you do in all your efforts for these brothers, strangers as they are,5Beloved, you are acting faithfully in whatever you accomplish for the brethren, and especially when they are strangers;5Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers;5Dear friend, you are showing faithfulness by whatever you do for the brothers, especially when they are strangers.
6They have told the church about your love. Please send them on their way in a manner that honors God.6who testified to your love before the church. You will do well to send them on their journey in a manner worthy of God.6and they have testified to your love before the church. You will do well to send them on their way in a manner worthy of God.6Which have borne witness of thy charity before the church: whom if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well:6They have testified to your love in front of the church. You will do well to send them on their journey in a manner worthy of God,
7It was for the sake of the Name that they went out, receiving no help from the pagans.7For they have gone out for the sake of the name, accepting nothing from the Gentiles.7For they went out for the sake of the Name, accepting nothing from the Gentiles.7Because that for his name's sake they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles.7since they set out for the sake of the Name, accepting nothing from pagans.
8We ought therefore to show hospitality to such people so that we may work together for the truth.8Therefore we ought to support people like these, that we may be fellow workers for the truth.8Therefore we ought to support such men, so that we may be fellow workers with the truth.8We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellowhelpers to the truth.8Therefore, we ought to support such men so that we can be coworkers with the truth.

Diotrephes and Demetrius

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
9I wrote to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to be first, will not welcome us.9I have written something to the church, but Diotrephes, who likes to put himself first, does not acknowledge our authority.9I wrote something to the church; but Diotrephes, who loves to be first among them, does not accept what we say.9I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.9I wrote something to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to have first place among them, does not receive us.
10So when I come, I will call attention to what he is doing, spreading malicious nonsense about us. Not satisfied with that, he even refuses to welcome other believers. He also stops those who want to do so and puts them out of the church.10So if I come, I will bring up what he is doing, talking wicked nonsense against us. And not content with that, he refuses to welcome the brothers, and also stops those who want to and puts them out of the church.10For this reason, if I come, I will call attention to his deeds which he does, unjustly accusing us with wicked words; and not satisfied with this, he himself does not receive the brethren, either, and he forbids those who desire to do so and puts them out of the church.10Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church.10This is why, if I come, I will remind him of the works he is doing, slandering us with malicious words. And he is not satisfied with that! He not only refuses to welcome the brothers himself, but he even stops those who want to do so and expels them from the church.
11Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God.11Beloved, do not imitate evil but imitate good. Whoever does good is from God; whoever does evil has not seen God.11Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. The one who does good is of God; the one who does evil has not seen God.11Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.11Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. The one who does good is of God; the one who does evil has not seen God.
12Demetrius is well spoken of by everyone--and even by the truth itself. We also speak well of him, and you know that our testimony is true.12Demetrius has received a good testimony from everyone, and from the truth itself. We also add our testimony, and you know that our testimony is true.12Demetrius has received a good testimony from everyone, and from the truth itself; and we add our testimony, and you know that our testimony is true.12Demetrius hath good report of all men, and of the truth itself: yea, and we also bear record; and ye know that our record is true.12Demetrius has a good testimony from everyone, and from the truth itself. And we also testify for him, and you know that our testimony is true.
