ContextThe Day of the Lord
…7For they that sleep, sleep in the night; and they that are drunk, are drunk in the night. 8But let us, who are of the day, be sober, having on the breast plate of faith and charity and, for a helmet, the hope of salvation. 9For God hath not appointed us unto wrath: but unto the purchasing of salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,…
He put on justice as a breastplate, and a helmet of salvation upon his head: he put on the garments of vengeance, and was clad with zeal as with a cloak.
For we are saved by hope. But hope that is seen is not hope. For what a man seeth, why doth he hope for?
The night is passed And the day is at hand. Let us, therefore cast off the works of darkness and put on the armour of light.
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth and having on the breastplate of justice:
In all things taking the shield of faith, wherewith you may be able to extinguish all the fiery darts of the most wicked one.
And take unto you the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit (which is the word of God).
Peace be to the brethren and charity with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Thessalonians 5:5
For all you are the children of light and children of the day: we are not of the night nor of darkness.
1 Peter 1:13
Wherefore, having the loins of your mind girt up, being sober, trust perfectly in the grace which is offered you in the revelation of Jesus Christ.
