The Root of Jesse 1A branch there will come forth from the stump of Jesse, and a fresh shoot from his roots will bear fruit. 2And will rest upon Him the Spirit of YHWH, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and fear of YHWH. 3And His delight is in the fear of YHWH, and by the sight of His eyes He will not judge, and not by the hearing of his ears He will decide. 4And He will judge the lowly with righteousness, and He will decide with straightness for the poor of the earth; and He will strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, and with the breath of His lips He will slay the wicked. 5And righteousness will be the girdle of His waist, and faithfulness the girdle of His loins. 6And the wolf will dwell with the lamb, and the leopard will lie down with the young goat, and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together,† and a little child will lead them. 7And the cow and the bear will graze; their young will lie down together, and the lion like the ox will eat straw. 8And the suckling will play over the hole of a cobra, and over the den of a viper the one being weaned will stretch out his hand. 9They will not harm and they will not destroy in all the mountain of My holiness; for the earth will be full of the knowledge of YHWH, as the waters are covering the sea. 10And in that day it will come to pass that the root of Jesse, which is standing, will be as a banner for the peoples; The nations will seek Him out,† and His resting place will be in glory. 11And it will come to pass in that day that the Lord will add a second time with His hand to recover the remnant of His people who will remain from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush,† and from Elam, and from Shinar,† and from Hamath, and from the islands† of the sea. 12And He will lift up a banner for the nations, and He will gather the banished ones of Israel, and the dispersed ones of Judah He will gather together from the four wings of the earth. 13And the jealousy of Ephraim† will be turned aside, and the adversaries† of Judah will be cut off. Ephraim will not envy Judah and Judah will not harass Ephraim. 14And they will fly down on the shoulder of the Philistines westward; together they will plunder the sons of the east. Upon Edom and Moab they will send forth their hands, and the sons of Ammon will be their subjects. 15And YHWH will devote to destruction† the tongue† of the Sea of Egypt, and He will wave His hand over the River† with the might of His wind, and will strike it into seven streams, for one to tread in sandals. 16And there will be a highway for the remnant of His people who remain from Assyria, as it was for Israel in the day of his coming up from the land of Egypt.
