Yahweh Has Chosen Zion

שִׁ֗יר (A Song) הַֽמַּ֫עֲל֥וֹת (of the Ascents).

1זְכוֹר־ (Remember), יְהוָ֥ה (O YHWH), לְדָוִ֑ד (for David), אֵ֝ת (-)

כָּל־ (all) עֻנּוֹתֽוֹ׃ (his afflictions),

2  אֲשֶׁ֣ר (how) נִ֭שְׁבַּע (he swore) לַיהוָ֑ה (to YHWH).

נָ֝דַ֗ר (And vowed) לַאֲבִ֥יר (to the Mighty One) יַעֲקֹֽב׃ (of Jacob):

3  אִם־ (If) אָ֭בֹא (I enter) בְּאֹ֣הֶל (into the tent) בֵּיתִ֑י (of my house)

אִם־ (or if) אֶ֝עֱלֶ֗ה (go up) עַל־ (on) עֶ֥רֶשׂ (the couch) יְצוּעָֽי׃ (of my bed),

4  אִם־ (not) אֶתֵּ֣ן (will I give) שְׁנַ֣ת (sleep) לְעֵינָ֑י (to my eyes)—

לְֽעַפְעַפַּ֥י (and to my eyelids) תְּנוּמָֽה׃ (slumber)—

5  עַד־ (until) אֶמְצָ֣א (I find) מָ֭קוֹם (a place) לַיהוָ֑ה (for YHWH),

מִ֝שְׁכָּנ֗וֹת (a dwelling place) לַאֲבִ֥יר (for the Mighty One) יַעֲקֹֽב׃ (of Jacob).

6  הִנֵּֽה־ (Behold), שְׁמַֽעֲנ֥וּהָ (we have heard of it) בְאֶפְרָ֑תָה (in Ephrathah),

מְ֝צָאנ֗וּהָ (we have found out about it) בִּשְׂדֵי־ (in the fields) יָֽעַר׃ (of Jaar).

7  נָב֥וֹאָה (Let us go) לְמִשְׁכְּנוֹתָ֑יו (into His dwelling place);

נִ֝שְׁתַּחֲוֶ֗ה (let us worship) לַהֲדֹ֥ם (at the stool) רַגְלָֽיו׃ (of His feet).

8  קוּמָ֣ה (Arise), יְ֭הוָה (O YHWH), לִמְנוּחָתֶ֑ךָ (to Your resting place)—

אַ֝תָּ֗ה (You) וַאֲר֥וֹן (and the ark) עֻזֶּֽךָ׃ (of Your strength).

9  כֹּהֲנֶ֥יךָ (Your priests) יִלְבְּשׁוּ־ (let be clothed) צֶ֑דֶק (with righteousness)

וַחֲסִידֶ֥יךָ (and Your holy ones) יְרַנֵּֽנוּ׃ (let shout for joy).

10  בַּ֭עֲבוּר (For the sake) דָּוִ֣ד (of David) עַבְדֶּ֑ךָ (Your servant)

אַל־ (do not) תָּ֝שֵׁ֗ב (turn away) פְּנֵ֣י (the face) מְשִׁיחֶֽךָ׃ (of Your anointed one).

11  נִשְׁבַּֽע־ (Has sworn) יְהוָ֨ה׀ (YHWH) לְדָוִ֡ד (of David) אֱמֶת֮ (in truth);

לֹֽא־ (not) יָשׁ֪וּב (will He turn back) מִ֫מֶּ֥נָּה (from it):

מִפְּרִ֥י (From the fruit) בִטְנְךָ֑ (of your belly) אָ֝שִׁ֗ית (I will set one)

לְכִסֵּא־ (on the throne) לָֽךְ׃ (of yours).

12  אִֽם־ (If) יִשְׁמְר֬וּ (will keep) בָנֶ֨יךָ׀ (your sons) בְּרִיתִי֮ (My covenant)

וְעֵדֹתִ֥י (and My testimonies) ז֗וֹ (that) אֲלַ֫מְּדֵ֥ם (I teach them),

גַּם־ (also) בְּנֵיהֶ֥ם (their sons) עֲדֵי־ (forever) עַ֑ד (and ever)

יֵ֝שְׁב֗וּ (will sit) לְכִסֵּא־ (on the throne) לָֽךְ׃ (of yours).

13  כִּֽי־ (For) בָחַ֣ר (has set His choice) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH) בְּצִיּ֑וֹן (on Zion);

אִ֝וָּ֗הּ (He has desired it) לְמוֹשָׁ֥ב (as a seat) לֽוֹ׃ (for Himself):

14  זֹאת־ (This is) מְנוּחָתִ֥י (My resting place) עֲדֵי־ (forever) עַ֑ד (and ever);

פֹּֽה־ (here) אֵ֝שֵׁ֗ב (I will sit), כִּ֣י (for) אִוִּתִֽיהָ׃ (I have desired it).

15  צֵ֭ידָהּ (Her provision) בָּרֵ֣ךְ (with blessing) אֲבָרֵ֑ךְ (I will bless);

אֶ֝בְיוֹנֶ֗יהָ (and her needy ones) אַשְׂבִּ֥יעַֽ (I will satisfy) לָֽחֶם׃ (with bread);

16  וְֽ֭כֹהֲנֶיהָ (and her priests) אַלְבִּ֣ישׁ (I will clothe) יֶ֑שַׁע (with salvation);

וַ֝חֲסִידֶ֗יהָ (and her godly ones) רַנֵּ֥ן (with shouting) יְרַנֵּֽנוּ׃ (will shout).

17  שָׁ֤ם (There) אַצְמִ֣יחַ (I will make to sprout) קֶ֣רֶן (a horn) לְדָוִ֑ד (for David);

עָרַ֥כְתִּי (I will arrange) נֵ֝֗ר (a lamp) לִמְשִׁיחִֽי׃ (for My anointed one).

18  א֭וֹיְבָיו (His enemies) אַלְבִּ֣ישׁ (I will clothe) בֹּ֑שֶׁת (with shame),

וְ֝עָלָ֗יו (and upon him) יָצִ֥יץ (will shine) נִזְרֽוֹ׃ (his diadem).
