And they brought in the ark of God and placed it inside the tent which David had pitched for it, and they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before God. | 1They brought the ark of God and set it inside the tent that David had pitched for it, and they presented burnt offerings and fellowship offerings before God. |
When David had finished offering the burnt offering and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD. | 2After David had finished sacrificing the burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD. |
He distributed to everyone of Israel, both man and woman, to everyone a loaf of bread and a portion of meat and a raisin cake. | 3Then he gave a loaf of bread, a cake of dates and a cake of raisins to each Israelite man and woman. |
He appointed some of the Levites as ministers before the ark of the LORD, even to celebrate and to thank and praise the LORD God of Israel: | 4He appointed some of the Levites to minister before the ark of the LORD, to extol, thank, and praise the LORD, the God of Israel: |
Asaph the chief, and second to him Zechariah, then Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-edom and Jeiel, with musical instruments, harps, lyres; also Asaph played loud-sounding cymbals, | 5Asaph was the chief, and next to him in rank were Zechariah, then Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-Edom and Jeiel. They were to play the lyres and harps, Asaph was to sound the cymbals, |
and Benaiah and Jahaziel the priests blew trumpets continually before the ark of the covenant of God. | 6and Benaiah and Jahaziel the priests were to blow the trumpets regularly before the ark of the covenant of God. |
Then on that day David first assigned Asaph and his relatives to give thanks to the LORD. | 7That day David first appointed Asaph and his associates to give praise to the LORD in this manner: |
Oh give thanks to the LORD, call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples. | 8Give praise to the LORD, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done. |
Sing to Him, sing praises to Him; Speak of all His wonders. | 9Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts. |
Glory in His holy name; Let the heart of those who seek the LORD be glad. | 10Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice. |
Seek the LORD and His strength; Seek His face continually. | 11Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always. |
Remember His wonderful deeds which He has done, His marvels and the judgments from His mouth, | 12Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced, |
O seed of Israel His servant, Sons of Jacob, His chosen ones! | 13you his servants, the descendants of Israel, his chosen ones, the children of Jacob. |
He is the LORD our God; His judgments are in all the earth. | 14He is the LORD our God; his judgments are in all the earth. |
Remember His covenant forever, The word which He commanded to a thousand generations, | 15He remembers his covenant forever, the promise he made, for a thousand generations, |
The covenant which He made with Abraham, And His oath to Isaac. | 16the covenant he made with Abraham, the oath he swore to Isaac. |
He also confirmed it to Jacob for a statute, To Israel as an everlasting covenant, | 17He confirmed it to Jacob as a decree, to Israel as an everlasting covenant: |
Saying, "To you I will give the land of Canaan, As the portion of your inheritance." | 18"To you I will give the land of Canaan as the portion you will inherit." |
When they were only a few in number, Very few, and strangers in it, | 19When they were but few in number, few indeed, and strangers in it, |
And they wandered about from nation to nation, And from one kingdom to another people, | 20they wandered from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another. |
He permitted no man to oppress them, And He reproved kings for their sakes, saying, | 21He allowed no one to oppress them; for their sake he rebuked kings: |
"Do not touch My anointed ones, And do My prophets no harm." | 22"Do not touch my anointed ones; do my prophets no harm." |
Sing to the LORD, all the earth; Proclaim good tidings of His salvation from day to day. | 23Sing to the LORD, all the earth; proclaim his salvation day after day. |
Tell of His glory among the nations, His wonderful deeds among all the peoples. | 24Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples. |
For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; He also is to be feared above all gods. | 25For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods. |
For all the gods of the peoples are idols, But the LORD made the heavens. | 26For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the LORD made the heavens. |
Splendor and majesty are before Him, Strength and joy are in His place. | 27Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and joy are in his dwelling place. |
Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the peoples, Ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. | 28Ascribe to the LORD, all you families of nations, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. |
Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His name; Bring an offering, and come before Him; Worship the LORD in holy array. | 29Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; bring an offering and come before him. Worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness. |
Tremble before Him, all the earth; Indeed, the world is firmly established, it will not be moved. | 30Tremble before him, all the earth! The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved. |
Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; And let them say among the nations, "The LORD reigns." | 31Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let them say among the nations, "The LORD reigns!" |
Let the sea roar, and all it contains; Let the field exult, and all that is in it. | 32Let the sea resound, and all that is in it; let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them! |
Then the trees of the forest will sing for joy before the LORD; For He is coming to judge the earth. | 33Let the trees of the forest sing, let them sing for joy before the LORD, for he comes to judge the earth. |
O give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; For His lovingkindness is everlasting. | 34Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. |
Then say, "Save us, O God of our salvation, And gather us and deliver us from the nations, To give thanks to Your holy name, And glory in Your praise." | 35Cry out, "Save us, God our Savior; gather us and deliver us from the nations, that we may give thanks to your holy name, and glory in your praise." |
Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, From everlasting even to everlasting. Then all the people said, "Amen," and praised the LORD. | 36Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Then all the people said "Amen" and "Praise the LORD." |
So he left Asaph and his relatives there before the ark of the covenant of the LORD to minister before the ark continually, as every day's work required; | 37David left Asaph and his associates before the ark of the covenant of the LORD to minister there regularly, according to each day's requirements. |
and Obed-edom with his 68 relatives; Obed-edom, also the son of Jeduthun, and Hosah as gatekeepers. | 38He also left Obed-Edom and his sixty-eight associates to minister with them. Obed-Edom son of Jeduthun, and also Hosah, were gatekeepers. |
He left Zadok the priest and his relatives the priests before the tabernacle of the LORD in the high place which was at Gibeon, | 39David left Zadok the priest and his fellow priests before the tabernacle of the LORD at the high place in Gibeon |
to offer burnt offerings to the LORD on the altar of burnt offering continually morning and evening, even according to all that is written in the law of the LORD, which He commanded Israel. | 40to present burnt offerings to the LORD on the altar of burnt offering regularly, morning and evening, in accordance with everything written in the Law of the LORD, which he had given Israel. |
With them were Heman and Jeduthun, and the rest who were chosen, who were designated by name, to give thanks to the LORD, because His lovingkindness is everlasting. | 41With them were Heman and Jeduthun and the rest of those chosen and designated by name to give thanks to the LORD, "for his love endures forever." |
And with them were Heman and Jeduthun with trumpets and cymbals for those who should sound aloud, and with instruments for the songs of God, and the sons of Jeduthun for the gate. | 42Heman and Jeduthun were responsible for the sounding of the trumpets and cymbals and for the playing of the other instruments for sacred song. The sons of Jeduthun were stationed at the gate. |
Then all the people departed each to his house, and David returned to bless his household. | 43Then all the people left, each for their own home, and David returned home to bless his family. |
