New American Standard Bible 1995 | Holman Christian Standard Bible |
Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. | 1So if you have been raised with the Messiah, seek what is above, where the Messiah is, seated at the right hand of God. |
Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. | 2Set your minds on what is above, not on what is on the earth. |
For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. | 3For you have died, and your life is hidden with the Messiah in God. |
When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory. | 4When the Messiah, who is your life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory. |
Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry. | 5Therefore, put to death what belongs to your worldly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desire, and greed, which is idolatry. |
For it is because of these things that the wrath of God will come upon the sons of disobedience, | 6Because of these, God's wrath comes on the disobedient, |
and in them you also once walked, when you were living in them. | 7and you once walked in these things when you were living in them. |
But now you also, put them all aside: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech from your mouth. | 8But now you must also put away all the following: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and filthy language from your mouth. |
Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices, | 9Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old self with its practices |
and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him-- | 10and have put on the new self. You are being renewed in knowledge according to the image of your Creator. |
a renewal in which there is no distinction between Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and freeman, but Christ is all, and in all. | 11In Christ there is not Greek and Jew, circumcision and uncircumcision, barbarian, Scythian, slave and free; but Christ is all and in all. |
So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; | 12Therefore, God's chosen ones, holy and loved, put on heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, |
bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. | 13accepting one another and forgiving one another if anyone has a complaint against another. Just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you must also forgive. |
Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. | 14Above all, put on love--the perfect bond of unity. |
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful. | 15And let the peace of the Messiah, to which you were also called in one body, control your hearts. Be thankful. |
Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. | 16Let the message about the Messiah dwell richly among you, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, and singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, with gratitude in your hearts to God. |
Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father. | 17And whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. |
Wives, be subject to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. | 18Wives, be submissive to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. |
Husbands, love your wives and do not be embittered against them. | 19Husbands, love your wives and don't be bitter toward them. |
Children, be obedient to your parents in all things, for this is well-pleasing to the Lord. | 20Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. |
Fathers, do not exasperate your children, so that they will not lose heart. | 21Fathers, do not exasperate your children, so they won't become discouraged. |
Slaves, in all things obey those who are your masters on earth, not with external service, as those who merely please men, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord. | 22Slaves, obey your human masters in everything. Don't work only while being watched, in order to please men, but work wholeheartedly, fearing the Lord. |
Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, | 23Whatever you do, do it enthusiastically, as something done for the Lord and not for men, |
knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve. | 24knowing that you will receive the reward of an inheritance from the Lord. You serve the Lord Christ. |
For he who does wrong will receive the consequences of the wrong which he has done, and that without partiality. | 25For the wrongdoer will be paid back for whatever wrong he has done, and there is no favoritism. |
