Life

In the biblical narrative, life is a divine gift, originating from God Himself. The creation account in Genesis reveals that life is not merely a biological phenomenon but a sacred endowment. Genesis 2:7 states, "Then the LORD God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils, and the man became a living being." This passage underscores the intimate involvement of God in the creation of human life, highlighting its intrinsic value and sanctity.

The sanctity of life is further emphasized in the commandment, "You shall not murder" (Exodus 20:13), which underscores the protection of human life as a fundamental moral principle. The value of life is also evident in the teachings of Jesus, who declared, "I have come that they may have life, and have it in all its fullness" (John 10:10). Here, life is portrayed not only as physical existence but as a rich, abundant experience found in relationship with Christ.

The New Testament further elaborates on the value of life through the concept of eternal life. John 3:16 affirms, "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." Eternal life is presented as the ultimate expression of God's love and the ultimate destiny for believers, transcending the temporal nature of earthly existence.

Light

Light, in the biblical context, is a powerful symbol of God's presence, truth, and guidance. From the very beginning, light is associated with divine order and goodness. Genesis 1:3-4 records, "And God said, 'Let there be light,' and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness." This act of creation establishes light as a fundamental element of the cosmos, representing God's creative power and the dispelling of chaos.

In the spiritual realm, light is synonymous with truth and revelation. Psalm 119:105 declares, "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path," illustrating how God's Word illuminates the believer's journey, providing wisdom and direction. The metaphor of light is also central to the identity of Jesus Christ. In John 8:12 , Jesus proclaims, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life." Here, light signifies the revelation of God's truth through Christ, offering salvation and guidance to all who follow Him.

The apostle Paul further expounds on the transformative power of light in the life of believers. In Ephesians 5:8 , he writes, "For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light." This exhortation calls Christians to live in a manner that reflects their new identity in Christ, characterized by righteousness and truth.

In the eschatological vision of the New Jerusalem, light is depicted as the ultimate reality in the presence of God. Revelation 21:23 describes, "The city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp." This imagery conveys the consummation of God's redemptive plan, where His glory provides perpetual illumination, signifying the eternal fellowship between God and His people.
