Throughout Scripture, the hungry and the poor are depicted as individuals deserving of care and dignity, and believers are encouraged to respond to their needs as an expression of faith and obedience to God.

Old Testament Context

In the Old Testament, God's law provided specific instructions for the care of the poor and the hungry. The Israelites were commanded to leave the gleanings of their harvest for the needy: "When you reap the harvest of your land, you are not to reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Leave them for the poor and the foreigner. I am the LORD your God" (Leviticus 23:22). This provision ensured that the marginalized had access to food and sustenance.

The Psalms and Proverbs frequently highlight God's concern for the poor. Psalm 82:3-4 exhorts, "Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless; uphold the rights of the afflicted and oppressed. New Testament Teachings
