Peace

Old Testament

Peace in the Old Testament is often associated with God's covenantal promises. In Numbers 6:24-26, the Aaronic blessing invokes peace as a divine gift: "The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace." The concept of rest is introduced in Genesis 2:2-3, where God rests on the seventh day after creation, setting a pattern for the Sabbath. The Sabbath rest is later codified in the Mosaic Law as a day of cessation from labor, as seen in Exodus 20:8-11. This rest is not merely physical but serves as a reminder of God's provision and sovereignty.
