Throughout Scripture, there are numerous instances where God responds to the prayers of His people, liberating them from various forms of captivity and oppression.

Israel's Deliverance from Egypt

The most notable example of answered prayer from bondage is the deliverance of the Israelites from Egyptian slavery. The Israelites, oppressed and burdened by harsh labor, cried out to God for deliverance. In Exodus 2:23-25 , it is recorded: "After a long time, the king of Egypt died, and the Israelites groaned because of their bondage and cried out, and their cry for deliverance from bondage ascended to God. So God heard their groaning, and He remembered His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. God saw the Israelites and took notice."

God's response to their prayers was the calling of Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. Through a series of miraculous events, including the ten plagues and the parting of the Red Sea, God answered their prayers and delivered them from bondage, as detailed in the book of Exodus.

Deliverance from Babylonian Captivity

Another significant instance of answered prayer from bondage is the return of the Israelites from Babylonian captivity. The prophet Daniel, while in exile, prayed fervently for the restoration of Jerusalem and the return of his people. Daniel 9:3-4 states: "So I turned my attention to the Lord God to seek Him by prayer and petition, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes. I prayed to the LORD my God and confessed: 'O Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps His covenant of loving devotion to those who love Him and keep His commandments.'"

In response to the prayers of Daniel and others, God moved the heart of King Cyrus of Persia, who issued a decree allowing the Jews to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the temple, as recorded in Ezra 1:1-4. This marked the end of their captivity and the beginning of their restoration.

Personal Deliverance from Spiritual Bondage

The New Testament also highlights the theme of deliverance from spiritual bondage through prayer. In Acts 12, the early church fervently prayed for the release of Peter, who was imprisoned by King Herod. Acts 12:5 notes: "So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was fervently praying to God for him." In response, an angel of the Lord miraculously freed Peter from his chains and led him out of the prison, demonstrating God's power to answer prayer and deliver His people from spiritual and physical captivity.
