The New Covenant

Role of the Spirit in the New Covenant

The Spirit regenerates and sanctifies, enabling believers to live in accordance with God's will (Titus 3:5; 1 Peter 1:2). The Spirit also serves as a seal and guarantee of the believer's inheritance, as stated in Ephesians 1:13-14: "In Him, you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in Him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it" .

The indwelling Spirit empowers believers for service, distributes spiritual gifts for the edification of the Church (1 Corinthians 12:4-11), and produces the fruit of the Spirit in their lives (Galatians 5:22-23). Through the Spirit, believers experience a personal relationship with God, as the Spirit intercedes for them and assures them of their adoption as children of God (Romans 8:15-16, 26-27).
