Paul had visited Cephas and James in Jerusalem, yet the congregations throughout Judea did not know him by sight. His ministry had not been shaped by prolonged instruction from the Jerusalem apostles or by public recognition among the earliest churches. The gospel he preached came through the revelation of Jesus Christ, even as God later joined him in fellowship with believers who had already received the same Lord.

however, to the churches of Judea

Judea surrounded Jerusalem, where the church began after Pentecost and where many Jewish believers continued to worship God in the light of Christ’s fulfillment of the Scriptures. Their response was not suspicion alone but praise to God for His transforming grace.
