1During the time that Amraphel was king of Shinar, he and his three allies - Arioch, king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer, king of Elam, and Tidal, king of Goiim - 2To wage war with Bera, king of Sodom, Birsha, king of Gomorrah, Shinab, king of Admah, Shemeber, king of Zeboiim, and the (unnamed) king of Bela, also known as Zoar. 3These five joined forces in the valley of Siddim, at the salt sea. 4They had served Chedorlaomer for twelve years; but in the thirteenth year, they had rebelled. 5And so, in the fourteenth year, Chedorlaomer came, with the three kings that were allied with him, and defeated the Rephaites in Ashteroth-karnaim, the Zuzites in Ham, the Emites in Shaveh Kiriathaim, 6And the Horites in their mountains of Seir, as far as El-paran, near the wilderness. 7And as they returned, they came to En-mishpat, which is Kadesh, and attacked it, conquering all the country of the Amalekites and the Amorites, that dwelt in Hazazon-tamar. 8And the five kings who had rebelled, of Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, Zeboiim, and Bela (Zoar), prepared for battle in the valley of Siddim against Chedorlaomer, and the three kings he had with him - 9Tidal, king of Goiim, Amraphel, king of Shinar, and Arioch, king of Ellasar - four kings against five. 10Now the valley of Siddim was full of tar pits; and as the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, and some men fell into them; and the others fled into the hills. 11And after their victory, the four kings captured and carried off plunder from Sodom and Gomorrah; 12And they also captured and carried off Lot, Abram's nephew, who was living in Sodom, along with his possessions. 13And then one of Lot’s men who had escaped came and told Abram, who was dwelling by the oaks (in the plain) of Mamre, the Amorite, a brother of Eshcol and Aner: all whom were allied with Abram. 14And when Abram heard that his nephew was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, those born in his own house - three hundred eighteen - and pursued them to Dan. 15And Abram divided his men, and attacked and defeated them by night, and pursued them as far as Hobah, north of Damascus. 16He recovered all the plunder, and rescued his nephew Lot, with the women and other people, and Lot’s possessions. 17And the king of Sodom went out to meet Abram as he returned from defeating Chedorlaomer, and his allies, at the valley of Shaveh, which is the King's Valley. 18Then Melchizedek, king of Salem, brought out bread and wine. He was the priest of the most high God. 19And he blessed Abram, and said, “Blessed be Abram of the Most High God, the Creator of heaven and earth: 20Praise be to the Most High God, Who has delivered your enemies into your hand.” And Abram gave him tithes of all his spoils. 21And the king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give me the people, but keep the spoils for yourself.” 22But Abram answered the king of Sodom, “I have lifted up my hand and sworn an oath to the LORD, the Most High God, the Creator of heaven and earth, 23That I would not even take a thread or a sandal thong, or anything that is yours; so that you cannot say, ‘I have made Abram rich’: 24I will accept nothing, except for what the young men have eaten, and a share for the men who went with me - Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their share.”
