1 And morning having come, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus, so that they might put Him to death. 2 And having bound Him, they led Him away and delivered Him to Pilate the governor. 3 Then Judas, the one having delivered Him up, having seen that He was condemned, having regretted it, returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, 4 saying, “I sinned, having betrayed innocent blood.” But they said, “What is it to us? You will see.” 5 And having cast down the pieces of silver into the temple, he withdrew. And having gone away, he hanged himself. 6 And the chief priests, having taken the pieces of silver, said, “It is not lawful to put them into the treasury, since it is the price of blood.” 7 And having taken counsel, they bought with them the potter’s field for a burial place for foreigners. 8 Therefore that field was called Field of Blood until this day. 9 Then was fulfilled that having been spoken by the prophet Jeremiah, saying, “And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of the One having been priced, on whom a price was set by the sons of Israel, 10 and they gave them for the potter’s field, as the Lord directed me.” 11 Now Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor questioned Him, saying, “Are You the King of the Jews?” And Jesus said, “You say it.” 12 And in His being accused by the chief priests and elders, He answered nothing. 13 Then Pilate says to Him, “Do You not hear how many things they witness against You?” 14 And He did not answer him, not even to one word, so as to amaze the governor exceedingly. 15 And at the feast, the governor had been accustomed to release one prisoner to the multitude, whom they willed. 16 And at that time they were holding a notable prisoner called Barabbas. 17 Therefore, in their being gathered together, Pilate said to them, “Whom do you? desire that I shall release to you?? Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?” 18 For he had known that they delivered Him up because of envy. 19 And in his sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent to him, saying, “Nothing with you and that righteous man, for I suffered many things in a dream today because of Him.” 20 But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowds that they should ask for Barabbas, and should destroy Jesus. 21 And answering, the governor said to them, “Which of the two do you? desire that I shall release to you??” And they said, “Barabbas.” 22 Pilate says to them, “What then should I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” They all say, “Let Him be crucified!” 23 And he said, “For what evil did He commit?” And they kept crying out all the more, saying, “Let Him be crucified!” 24 And Pilate, having seen that it availed nothing, but rather a riot is arising, having taken water, he washed the hands before the crowd, saying, “I am guiltless of the blood of this man. For yourselves you? will see.” 25 And answering, all the people, said, “His blood be on us and on our children!” Matthew 27:1-25, Berean Literal Bible. Public domain.
