Mark 6:1-16 ▼

1 And He went out from there and came to His hometown, and His disciples follow Him.

2 And on the Sabbath having come, He began to teach in the synagogue; and many hearing were astonished, saying, “From where to this man are these things, and what is the wisdom having been given to Him, and the miracles such as are done by His hands?

3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not His sisters here with us?” And they were taking offense at Him.

4 And Jesus was saying to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in his hometown and among his relatives and in his house.”

5 And He was not able to do there any miracle except, having laid the hands on a few of the sick, He healed them.

6 And He marveled because of their unbelief. And He was going around the villages, teaching.

7 And He summons the Twelve, and He began to send them forth two by two, and He was giving to them authority over the unclean spirits.

8 And He instructed them that they may take nothing for the way, except only a staff—no bread, no bag, no copper in the belt—

9 but to wear sandals, and you? may not put on two tunics.

10 And He was saying to them, “Wherever you? may enter into a house, remain there until you? may go out from there.

11 And whatever place may not receive you? nor hear you?, going out from there, shake off the dust that is under your? feet, as a testimony against them.”

12 And having gone out, they preached that they should repent.

13 And they were casting out many demons, and they were anointing many sick with oil and healing them.

14 And King Herod heard; for His name became well known, And they were saying, “John, the one baptizing, has been raised out from the dead. And because of this, the miraculous powers are working in him.”

15 But others were saying, “He is Elijah,” and others were saying, “A prophet, like one of the prophets.”

16 And having heard, Herod was saying, “John, whom I beheaded—this one was raised!”
