39 But the Lord said to him, “Now you?, the Pharisees, you? cleanse the outside of the cup and of the dish, but your? inside is full of plundering and of wickedness. 40 Fools! Did not the One having made the outside also make the inside? 41 But give as alms the things being within, and behold, all things are clean for you?. 42 But woe to you?, the Pharisees, because you? pay tithes of mint and rue and every herb, and you? pass by the judgment and the love of God. But it was necessary to do these things, and those not to neglect. 43 Woe to you?, the Pharisees, because you? love the first seat in the synagogues and the greetings in the marketplaces. 44 Woe to you?, because you? are like unmarked tombs, and the men walking above do not know.” 45 But answering, one of the lawyers says to Him, “Teacher, saying these things, You insult us also.” 46 But He said, “Woe also to you?, the lawyers, because you? burden men with burdens hard to bear, and you? yourselves do not touch the burdens with one of your? fingers. 47 Woe to you?, because you? build the tombs of the prophets, but your? fathers killed them. 48 So you? are witnesses and consent to the works of your? fathers, because they indeed killed them, and you? build the tombs. 49 Because of this also the wisdom of God said, ‘I will send to them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill and persecute,’ 50 so that the blood of all the prophets poured out from the foundation of the world might be required from this generation, 51 from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, the one having perished between the altar and the house. Yes, I say to you?, it will be required from this generation. 52 Woe to you?, the lawyers, because you? took away the key of knowledge. You yourselves did not enter, and you? hindered those entering.” 53 On His having gone out from there, the scribes and the Pharisees began terribly to press upon Him and to make Him speak about many things, 54 lying in wait to catch Him in something out of His mouth.
