delivering you from the people and from the Gentiles, to whom I am sending you

to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those having been sanctified by faith in Me.’

Hence, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision,

but also first to those in Damascus and Jerusalem, also to all the region of Judea, and to the Gentiles, I was declaring to repent and to turn to God, doing works worthy of repentance.

On account of these things the Jews, having seized me (being in the temple), were attempting to kill me.

Therefore, having obtained help from God up to this day, I have stood bearing witness both to small and to great, saying nothing other than that which both the prophets and Moses said was about to happen:

that the Christ would suffer and, as first through resurrection from the dead, He is about to proclaim light both to our people and to the Gentiles.”

Now of him making this defense, Festus said in a loud voice, “You are insane, Paul! Much learning turns you to insanity!”

But Paul says, “I am not insane, most excellent Festus, but I declare forth words of truth and sobriety.

For the king understands concerning these things, to whom also I speak, being bold. For I am persuaded that none of these things are hidden from him, for this thing is not done in a corner.

Do you believe the prophets, King Agrippa? I know that you believe.”

Then Agrippa said to Paul, “In so little time do you persuade me to become a Christian?”

And Paul said, “I would wish anyhow to God, both in a little and in much, not only you, but also all those hearing me this day, to become such as I also am, except these chains.”

Then the king and the governor rose up, and Bernice and those sitting with them,

and having withdrawn, they began speaking to one another, saying, “This man is doing nothing worthy of death or of chains.”

Then Agrippa was saying to Festus, “This man could have been released if he had not appealed to Caesar.”
