Abraham's Justification by Faith

5However, to the one who does not work but trusts God who justifies the ungodly, their faith is credited as righteousness.5And to the one who does not work but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness,5But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness,5But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.5But to the one who does not work, but believes on Him who declares the ungodly to be righteous, his faith is credited for righteousness.
6David says the same thing when he speaks of the blessedness of the one to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:6just as David also speaks of the blessing of the one to whom God counts righteousness apart from works:6just as David also speaks of the blessing on the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:6Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,6Likewise, David also speaks of the blessing of the man God credits righteousness to apart from works:
7"Blessed are those whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.7“Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sins are covered;7"BLESSED ARE THOSE WHOSE LAWLESS DEEDS HAVE BEEN FORGIVEN, AND WHOSE SINS HAVE BEEN COVERED.7Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.7How joyful are those whose lawless acts are forgiven and whose sins are covered!
8Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord will never count against them."8blessed is the man against whom the Lord will not count his sin.”8"BLESSED IS THE MAN WHOSE SIN THE LORD WILL NOT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT."8Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.8How joyful is the man the Lord will never charge with sin!
9Is this blessedness only for the circumcised, or also for the uncircumcised? We have been saying that Abraham's faith was credited to him as righteousness.9Is this blessing then only for the circumcised, or also for the uncircumcised? For we say that faith was counted to Abraham as righteousness.9Is this blessing then on the circumcised, or on the uncircumcised also? For we say, "FAITH WAS CREDITED TO ABRAHAM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS."9Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness.9Is this blessing only for the circumcised, then? Or is it also for the uncircumcised? For we say, Faith was credited to Abraham for righteousness.

10Under what circumstances was it credited? Was it after he was circumcised, or before? It was not after, but before!10How then was it counted to him? Was it before or after he had been circumcised? It was not after, but before he was circumcised.10How then was it credited? While he was circumcised, or uncircumcised? Not while circumcised, but while uncircumcised;10How was it then reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.10In what way then was it credited--while he was circumcised, or uncircumcised? Not while he was circumcised, but uncircumcised.
11And he received circumcision as a sign, a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised. So then, he is the father of all who believe but have not been circumcised, in order that righteousness might be credited to them.11He received the sign of circumcision as a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised. The purpose was to make him the father of all who believe without being circumcised, so that righteousness would be counted to them as well,11and he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while uncircumcised, so that he might be the father of all who believe without being circumcised, that righteousness might be credited to them,11And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also:11And he received the sign of circumcision as a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while still uncircumcised. This was to make him the father of all who believe but are not circumcised, so that righteousness may be credited to them also.
12And he is then also the father of the circumcised who not only are circumcised but who also follow in the footsteps of the faith that our father Abraham had before he was circumcised.12and to make him the father of the circumcised who are not merely circumcised but who also walk in the footsteps of the faith that our father Abraham had before he was circumcised.12and the father of circumcision to those who not only are of the circumcision, but who also follow in the steps of the faith of our father Abraham which he had while uncircumcised.12And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised.12And he became the father of the circumcised, who are not only circumcised but who also follow in the footsteps of the faith our father Abraham had while he was still uncircumcised.

Abraham Receives the Promise

(Genesis 15:8-21; Numbers 34:1-15)

13It was not through the law that Abraham and his offspring received the promise that he would be heir of the world, but through the righteousness that comes by faith.13For the promise to Abraham and his offspring that he would be heir of the world did not come through the law but through the righteousness of faith.13For the promise to Abraham or to his descendants that he would be heir of the world was not through the Law, but through the righteousness of faith.13For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.13For the promise to Abraham or to his descendants that he would inherit the world was not through the law, but through the righteousness that comes by faith.
14For if those who depend on the law are heirs, faith means nothing and the promise is worthless,14For if it is the adherents of the law who are to be the heirs, faith is null and the promise is void.14For if those who are of the Law are heirs, faith is made void and the promise is nullified;14For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect:14If those who are of the law are heirs, faith is made empty and the promise is canceled.
15because the law brings wrath. And where there is no law there is no transgression.15For the law brings wrath, but where there is no law there is no transgression.15for the Law brings about wrath, but where there is no law, there also is no violation.15Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression.15For the law produces wrath. And where there is no law, there is no transgression.
16Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham's offspring--not only to those who are of the law but also to those who have the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all.16That is why it depends on faith, in order that the promise may rest on grace and be guaranteed to all his offspring—not only to the adherent of the law but also to the one who shares the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all,16For this reason it is by faith, in order that it may be in accordance with grace, so that the promise will be guaranteed to all the descendants, not only to those who are of the Law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all,16Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,16This is why the promise is by faith, so that it may be according to grace, to guarantee it to all the descendants--not only to those who are of the law but also to those who are of Abraham's faith. He is the father of us all

17As it is written: "I have made you a father of many nations." He is our father in the sight of God, in whom he believed--the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not.17as it is written, “I have made you the father of many nations”—in the presence of the God in whom he believed, who gives life to the dead and calls into existence the things that do not exist.17(as it is written, "A FATHER OF MANY NATIONS HAVE I MADE YOU") in the presence of Him whom he believed, even God, who gives life to the dead and calls into being that which does not exist.17(As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.17in God's sight. As it is written: I have made you the father of many nations. He believed in God, who gives life to the dead and calls things into existence that do not exist.
18Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, "So shall your offspring be."18In hope he believed against hope, that he should become the father of many nations, as he had been told, “So shall your offspring be.”18In hope against hope he believed, so that he might become a father of many nations according to that which had been spoken, "SO SHALL YOUR DESCENDANTS BE."18Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations; according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.18He believed, hoping against hope, so that he became the father of many nations according to what had been spoken: So will your descendants be.
19Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead--since he was about a hundred years old--and that Sarah's womb was also dead.19He did not weaken in faith when he considered his own body, which was as good as dead (since he was about a hundred years old), or when he considered the barrenness of Sarah’s womb.19Without becoming weak in faith he contemplated his own body, now as good as dead since he was about a hundred years old, and the deadness of Sarah's womb;19And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara's womb:19He considered his own body to be already dead (since he was about 100 years old) and also considered the deadness of Sarah's womb, without weakening in the faith.
20Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God,20No unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God,20yet, with respect to the promise of God, he did not waver in unbelief but grew strong in faith, giving glory to God,20He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;20He did not waver in unbelief at God's promise but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God,
21being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.21fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised.21and being fully assured that what God had promised, He was able also to perform.21And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.21because he was fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.

22This is why "it was credited to him as righteousness."22That is why his faith was “counted to him as righteousness.”22Therefore IT WAS ALSO CREDITED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS.22And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.22Therefore, it was credited to him for righteousness.
23The words "it was credited to him" were written not for him alone,23But the words “it was counted to him” were not written for his sake alone,23Now not for his sake only was it written that it was credited to him,23Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him;23Now it was credited to him was not written for Abraham alone,
24but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness--for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead.24but for ours also. It will be counted to us who believe in him who raised from the dead Jesus our Lord,24but for our sake also, to whom it will be credited, as those who believe in Him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead,24But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;24but also for us. It will be credited to us who believe in Him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead.
25He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.25who was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification.25He who was delivered over because of our transgressions, and was raised because of our justification.25Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.25He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification.
