1 I BESEECH you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, by means of reasonable service. I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.
2 Do not imitate the way of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, that you may discern what is that good and acceptable, and perfect will of God. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
3 For I say, through the grace which is given to me, to all of you, not to think of yourselves beyond what you ought to think; but to think soberly, every man according to the measure of faith which God has distributed to him. For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.
4 For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same function, For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function,
5 So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.
6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us; some have the gift of prophecy, according to the measure of faith, Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith;
7 Some have the gift of ministration, in his ministry; and some of teaching, in his teaching. if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach;
8 Some of consolation, in consoling: he that gives, let him do it with sincerity; he that rules, with diligence; he that shows mercy, with cheerfulness. the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness. if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.
9 Let not your love be deceitful. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.
10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honor preferring one another; Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.
11 Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit, serving the LORD; Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.
12 Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
13 Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality. Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
14 Bless them which persecute you; bless, and curse not. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.
15 Rejoice with them that rejoice, and weep with them that weep. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.
16 Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not vain glory, but associate with those who are humble. Be not wise in your own conceits. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.
17 Recompense to no man evil for evil. But be careful to do good things before the presence of all men. Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone.
18 If it be possible, as much as lies in you, live peaceably with all men. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.
19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath; for it is written, Vengeance is mine: I will execute justice for you, said the LORD. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.
20 Therefore if your enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink; for in so doing, you shall heap coals of fire on his head. To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.”
21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
