1 Brethren, the pleasure indeed of my heart, and my supplication that is to God for Israel, is -- for salvation; Brothers, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved. Brothers and sisters, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved.
2 for I bear them testimony that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge, For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge.
3 for not knowing the righteousness of God, and their own righteousness seeking to establish, to the righteousness of God they did not submit. For, being ignorant of the righteousness of God, and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness. Since they did not know the righteousness of God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness.
4 For Christ is an end of law for righteousness to every one who is believing, For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. Christ is the culmination of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.
5 for Moses doth describe the righteousness that is of the law, that, 'The man who did them shall live in them,' For Moses writes about the righteousness that is based on the law, that the person who does the commandments shall live by them. Moses writes this about the righteousness that is by the law: “The person who does these things will live by them.”
6 and the righteousness of faith doth thus speak: 'Thou mayest not say in thine heart, Who shall go up to the heaven,' that is, Christ to bring down? But the righteousness based on faith says, “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’” (that is, to bring Christ down) But the righteousness that is by faith says: “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’” (that is, to bring Christ down)
7 or, 'Who shall go down to the abyss,' that is, Christ out of the dead to bring up. “or ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). “or ‘Who will descend into the deep?’” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).
8 But what doth it say? 'Nigh thee is the saying -- in thy mouth, and in thy heart:' that is, the saying of the faith, that we preach; But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim:
9 that if thou mayest confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and mayest believe in thy heart that God did raise him out of the dead, thou shalt be saved, because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
10 for with the heart doth one believe to righteousness, and with the mouth is confession made to salvation; For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.
11 for the Writing saith, 'Every one who is believing on him shall not be ashamed,' For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.”
12 for there is no difference between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord of all is rich to all those calling upon Him, For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him,
13 for every one -- whoever shall call upon the name of the Lord, he shall be saved.' For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
14 How then shall they call upon him in whom they did not believe? and how shall they believe on him of whom they did not hear? and how shall they hear apart from one preaching? How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?
15 and how shall they preach, if they may not be sent? according as it hath been written, 'How beautiful the feet of those proclaiming good tidings of peace, of those proclaiming good tidings of the good things!' And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”
16 But they were not all obedient to the good tidings, for Isaiah saith, 'Lord, who did give credence to our report?' But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?” But not all the Israelites accepted the good news. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our message?”
17 so then the faith is by a report, and the report through a saying of God, So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.
18 but I say, Did they not hear? yes, indeed -- 'to all the earth their voice went forth, and to the ends of the habitable world their sayings.' But I ask, have they not heard? Indeed they have, for “Their voice has gone out to all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world.” But I ask: Did they not hear? Of course they did: “Their voice has gone out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.”
19 But I say, Did not Israel know? first Moses saith, 'I will provoke you to jealousy by that which is not a nation; by an unintelligent nation I will anger you,' But I ask, did Israel not understand? First Moses says, “I will make you jealous of those who are not a nation; with a foolish nation I will make you angry.” Again I ask: Did Israel not understand? First, Moses says, “I will make you envious by those who are not a nation; I will make you angry by a nation that has no understanding.”
20 and Isaiah is very bold, and saith, 'I was found by those not seeking Me; I became manifest to those not inquiring after Me;' Then Isaiah is so bold as to say, “I have been found by those who did not seek me; I have shown myself to those who did not ask for me.” And Isaiah boldly says, “I was found by those who did not seek me; I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me.”
21 and unto Israel He saith, 'All the day I did stretch out My hands unto a people unbelieving and gainsaying.' But of Israel he says, “All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and contrary people.” But concerning Israel he says, “All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and obstinate people.”
