1 A Prayer by David. Hear, Yahweh, and answer me, for I am poor and needy. Incline your ear, O LORD, and answer me, for I am poor and needy. A prayer of David. Hear me, LORD, and answer me, for I am poor and needy.
2 Preserve my soul, for I am godly. You, my God, save your servant who trusts in you. Preserve my life, for I am godly; save your servant, who trusts in you—you are my God. Guard my life, for I am faithful to you; save your servant who trusts in you. You are my God;
3 Be merciful to me, Lord, for I call to you all day long. Be gracious to me, O Lord, for to you do I cry all the day. have mercy on me, Lord, for I call to you all day long.
4 Bring joy to the soul of your servant, for to you, Lord, do I lift up my soul. Gladden the soul of your servant, for to you, O Lord, do I lift up my soul. Bring joy to your servant, Lord, for I put my trust in you.
5 For you, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, abundant in loving kindness to all those who call on you. For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you. You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call to you.
6 Hear, Yahweh, my prayer. Listen to the voice of my petitions. Give ear, O LORD, to my prayer; listen to my plea for grace. Hear my prayer, LORD; listen to my cry for mercy.
7 In the day of my trouble I will call on you, for you will answer me. In the day of my trouble I call upon you, for you answer me. When I am in distress, I call to you, because you answer me.
8 There is no one like you among the gods, Lord, nor any deeds like your deeds. There is none like you among the gods, O Lord, nor are there any works like yours. Among the gods there is none like you, Lord; no deeds can compare with yours.
9 All nations you have made will come and worship before you, Lord. They shall glorify your name. All the nations you have made shall come and worship before you, O Lord, and shall glorify your name. All the nations you have made will come and worship before you, Lord; they will bring glory to your name.
10 For you are great, and do wondrous things. You are God alone. For you are great and do wondrous things; you alone are God. For you are great and do marvelous deeds; you alone are God.
11 Teach me your way, Yahweh. I will walk in your truth. Make my heart undivided to fear your name. Teach me your way, O LORD, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name. Teach me your way, LORD, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.
12 I will praise you, Lord my God, with my whole heart. I will glorify your name forever more. I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart, and I will glorify your name forever. I will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever.
13 For your loving kindness is great toward me. You have delivered my soul from the lowest Sheol. For great is your steadfast love toward me; you have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol. For great is your love toward me; you have delivered me from the depths, from the realm of the dead.
14 God, the proud have risen up against me. A company of violent men have sought after my soul, and they don’t hold regard for you before them. O God, insolent men have risen up against me; a band of ruthless men seeks my life, and they do not set you before them. Arrogant foes are attacking me, O God; ruthless people are trying to kill me— they have no regard for you.
15 But you, Lord, are a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness and truth. But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness. But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.
16 Turn to me, and have mercy on me! Give your strength to your servant. Save the son of your servant. Turn to me and be gracious to me; give your strength to your servant, and save the son of your maidservant. Turn to me and have mercy on me; show your strength in behalf of your servant; save me, because I serve you just as my mother did.
17 Show me a sign of your goodness, that those who hate me may see it, and be shamed, because you, Yahweh, have helped me, and comforted me. Show me a sign of your favor, that those who hate me may see and be put to shame because you, LORD, have helped me and comforted me. Give me a sign of your goodness, that my enemies may see it and be put to shame, for you, LORD, have helped me and comforted me.
