1 Unto the end, for the servant of God, David himself. The unjust hath said within himself, that he would sin : there is no fear of God before his eyes. Transgression speaks to the wicked deep in his heart; there is no fear of God before his eyes. For the director of music. Of David the servant of the LORD. I have a message from God in my heart concerning the sinfulness of the wicked: There is no fear of God before their eyes.
2 For in his sight he hath done deceitfully, that his iniquity may be found unto hatred. For he flatters himself in his own eyes that his iniquity cannot be found out and hated. In their own eyes they flatter themselves too much to detect or hate their sin.
3 The words of his mouth are iniquity and guile : he would not understand that he might do well. The words of his mouth are trouble and deceit; he has ceased to act wisely and do good. The words of their mouths are wicked and deceitful; they fail to act wisely or do good.
4 He hath devised iniquity on his bed, he hath set himself on every way that is not good : but evil he hath not hated. He plots trouble while on his bed; he sets himself in a way that is not good; he does not reject evil. Even on their beds they plot evil; they commit themselves to a sinful course and do not reject what is wrong.
5 O Lord, thy mercy is in heaven, and thy truth reacheth, even to the clouds. Your steadfast love, O LORD, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds. Your love, LORD, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies.
6 Thy justice is as the mountains of God, thy judgments are a great deep. Men and beasts thou wilt preserve, O Lord : Your righteousness is like the mountains of God; your judgments are like the great deep; man and beast you save, O LORD. Your righteousness is like the highest mountains, your justice like the great deep. You, LORD, preserve both people and animals.
7 O how hast thou multiplied thy mercy, O God! But the children of men shall put their trust under the covert of thy wings. How precious is your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings. How priceless is your unfailing love, O God! People take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
8 They shall be inebriated with the plenty of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the torrent of thy pleasure. They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your delights. They feast on the abundance of your house; you give them drink from your river of delights.
9 For with thee is the fountain of life; and in thy light we shall see light. For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light. For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light.
10 Extend thy mercy to them that know thee, and thy justice to them that are right in heart. Oh, continue your steadfast love to those who know you, and your righteousness to the upright of heart! Continue your love to those who know you, your righteousness to the upright in heart.
11 Let not the foot of pride come to me, and let not the hand of the sinner move me. Let not the foot of arrogance come upon me, nor the hand of the wicked drive me away. May the foot of the proud not come against me, nor the hand of the wicked drive me away.
12 There the workers of iniquity are fallen, they are cast out, and could not stand. There the evildoers lie fallen; they are thrust down, unable to rise. See how the evildoers lie fallen— thrown down, not able to rise!
