1 A prayer of David. Protect me, O God, for I have taken shelter in you. Preserve me, O God, for in you I take refuge. A miktam of David. Keep me safe, my God, for in you I take refuge.
2 I say to the LORD, |You are the Lord, my only source of well-being.| I say to the LORD, “You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you.” I say to the LORD, “You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing.”
3 As for God's chosen people who are in the land, and the leading officials I admired so much-- As for the saints in the land, they are the excellent ones, in whom is all my delight. I say of the holy people who are in the land, “They are the noble ones in whom is all my delight.”
4 their troubles multiply, they desire other gods. I will not pour out drink offerings of blood to their gods, nor will I make vows in the name of their gods. The sorrows of those who run after another god shall multiply; their drink offerings of blood I will not pour out or take their names on my lips. Those who run after other gods will suffer more and more. I will not pour out libations of blood to such gods or take up their names on my lips.
5 LORD, you give me stability and prosperity; you make my future secure. The LORD is my chosen portion and my cup; you hold my lot. LORD, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure.
6 It is as if I have been given fertile fields or received a beautiful tract of land. The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance.
7 I will praise the LORD who guides me; yes, during the night I reflect and learn. I bless the LORD who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me. I will praise the LORD, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me.
8 I constantly trust in the LORD; because he is at my right hand, I will not be upended. I have set the LORD always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. I keep my eyes always on the LORD. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
9 So my heart rejoices and I am happy; My life is safe. Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure. Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure,
10 You will not abandon me to Sheol; you will not allow your faithful follower to see the Pit. For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption. because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, nor will you let your faithful one see decay.
11 You lead me in the path of life; I experience absolute joy in your presence; you always give me sheer delight. You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
