1 A Psalm of David. O LORD, hear my prayer, give ear to my supplications; In Thy faithfulness answer me, and in Thy righteousness. Hear my prayer, O LORD; give ear to my pleas for mercy! In your faithfulness answer me, in your righteousness! A psalm of David. LORD, hear my prayer, listen to my cry for mercy; in your faithfulness and righteousness come to my relief.
2 And enter not into judgment with Thy servant; For in Thy sight shall no man living be justified. Enter not into judgment with your servant, for no one living is righteous before you. Do not bring your servant into judgment, for no one living is righteous before you.
3 For the enemy hath persecuted my soul; He hath crushed my life down to the ground; He hath made me to dwell in darkness, as those that have been long dead. For the enemy has pursued my soul; he has crushed my life to the ground; he has made me sit in darkness like those long dead. The enemy pursues me, he crushes me to the ground; he makes me dwell in the darkness like those long dead.
4 And my spirit fainteth within me; My heart within me is appalled. Therefore my spirit faints within me; my heart within me is appalled. So my spirit grows faint within me; my heart within me is dismayed.
5 I remember the days of old; I meditate on all Thy doing; I muse on the work of Thy hands. I remember the days of old; I meditate on all that you have done; I ponder the work of your hands. I remember the days of long ago; I meditate on all your works and consider what your hands have done.
6 I spread forth my hands unto Thee; My soul [thirsteth] after Thee, as a weary land. Selah I stretch out my hands to you; my soul thirsts for you like a parched land. Selah I spread out my hands to you; I thirst for you like a parched land.
7 Answer me speedily, O LORD, My spirit faileth; Hide not Thy face from me; Lest I become like them that go down into the pit. Answer me quickly, O LORD! My spirit fails! Hide not your face from me, lest I be like those who go down to the pit. Answer me quickly, LORD; my spirit fails. Do not hide your face from me or I will be like those who go down to the pit.
8 Cause me to hear Thy lovingkindness in the morning, For in Thee do I trust; Cause me to know the way wherein I should walk, For unto Thee have I lifted up my soul. Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust. Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul. Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.
9 Deliver me from mine enemies, O LORD; With Thee have I hidden myself. Deliver me from my enemies, O LORD! I have fled to you for refuge. Rescue me from my enemies, LORD, for I hide myself in you.
10 Teach me to do Thy will, For Thou art my God; Let Thy good spirit Lead me in an even land. Teach me to do your will, for you are my God! Let your good Spirit lead me on level ground! Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground.
11 For Thy name's sake, O LORD, quicken me; In Thy righteousness bring my soul out of trouble. For your name’s sake, O LORD, preserve my life! In your righteousness bring my soul out of trouble! For your name’s sake, LORD, preserve my life; in your righteousness, bring me out of trouble.
12 And in Thy mercy cut off mine enemies, And destroy all them that harass my soul; For I am Thy servant. And in your steadfast love you will cut off my enemies, and you will destroy all the adversaries of my soul, for I am your servant. In your unfailing love, silence my enemies; destroy all my foes, for I am your servant.
