1 A song of high degrees. O God be mindfull of Dauid: with all his affliction. Remember, O LORD, in David’s favor, all the hardships he endured, A song of ascents. LORD, remember David and all his self-denial.
2 Who swore vnto God: who made a vowe vnto the most mightie Lorde of Iacob. how he swore to the LORD and vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob, He swore an oath to the LORD, he made a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob:
3 Saying I wyll not enter into the tabernacle of my house: nor get vp into my bed. “I will not enter my house or get into my bed, “I will not enter my house or go to my bed,
4 I wyll not suffer myne eyes to slepe: nor myne eye liddes to slumber. I will not give sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids, I will allow no sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids,
5 Untill I finde out a place for the temple of God: an habitation for the most mightie Lorde of Iacob. until I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.” till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”
6 Beholde, we hearde it to be at Ephratha: we founde it in the fieldes of the forest. Behold, we heard of it in Ephrathah; we found it in the fields of Jaar. We heard it in Ephrathah, we came upon it in the fields of Jaar:
7 We wyll go into his tabernacle: and fall downe on our knees before his footestoole. “Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool!” “Let us go to his dwelling place, let us worship at his footstool, saying,
8 Aryse O God for to come into thy resting place: thou and the arke of thy strength. Arise, O LORD, and go to your resting place, you and the ark of your might. Arise, LORD, and come to your resting place, you and the ark of your might.
9 Let thy priestes be clothed with righteousnes: and let thy saintes make a ioyfull noyse. Let your priests be clothed with righteousness, and let your saints shout for joy. May your priests be clothed with your righteousness; may your faithful people sing for joy.’”
10 For thy seruaunt Dauids sake: turne not away from the face of thyne annoynted. For the sake of your servant David, do not turn away the face of your anointed one. For the sake of your servant David, do not reject your anointed one.
11 God hath sworne for a trueth vnto Dauid, and he wyll not go from it: I wyll place vpon thy throne some of the fruite of thy body. The LORD swore to David a sure oath from which he will not turn back: “One of the sons of your body I will set on your throne. The LORD swore an oath to David, a sure oath he will not revoke: “One of your own descendants I will place on your throne.
12 If thy chyldren wyll kepe my couenaunt and my testimonies whiche I wyll teache them: their chyldren also shall sit vpon thy throne for euermore. If your sons keep my covenant and my testimonies that I shall teach them, their sons also forever shall sit on your throne.” If your sons keep my covenant and the statutes I teach them, then their sons will sit on your throne for ever and ever.”
13 For God hath chosen to be in Sion: he had a desire that it might be an habitation for hym. For the LORD has chosen Zion; he has desired it for his dwelling place: For the LORD has chosen Zion, he has desired it for his dwelling, saying,
14 This is sayeth he my rest for euer: heare I wyll dwell, for I haue a desire to it. “This is my resting place forever; here I will dwell, for I have desired it. “This is my resting place for ever and ever; here I will sit enthroned, for I have desired it.
15 I wyll aboundauntly powre my blessinges vpon her victuals: and I wyll satisfie her poore with bread. I will abundantly bless her provisions; I will satisfy her poor with bread. I will bless her with abundant provisions; her poor I will satisfy with food.
16 I wyll clothe her priestes with saluation: and her saintes shall make an exceeding ioyfull noyse. Her priests I will clothe with salvation, and her saints will shout for joy. I will clothe her priests with salvation, and her faithful people will ever sing for joy.
17 I will make there the horne of Dauid to bud vp: I wyll ordayne a light for mine annoynted. There I will make a horn to sprout for David; I have prepared a lamp for my anointed. “Here I will make a horn grow for David and set up a lamp for my anointed one.
18 I wyll clothe his enemies with shame: but his crowne shall florishe vppon hym selfe. His enemies I will clothe with shame, but on him his crown will shine.” I will clothe his enemies with shame, but his head will be adorned with a radiant crown.”
