A SONG OF THE ASCENTS. I have called to YHWH in my distress, || And He answers me. In my distress I called to the LORD, and he answered me. A song of ascents. I call on the LORD in my distress, and he answers me.
O YHWH, deliver my soul from a lying lip, || From a deceitful tongue! Deliver me, O LORD, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue. Save me, LORD, from lying lips and from deceitful tongues.
What does He give to you? And what does He add to you? O deceitful tongue! What shall be given to you, and what more shall be done to you, you deceitful tongue? What will he do to you, and what more besides, you deceitful tongue?
Sharp arrows of a mighty one, with coals of broom trees. A warrior’s sharp arrows, with glowing coals of the broom tree! He will punish you with a warrior’s sharp arrows, with burning coals of the broom bush.
Woe to me, for I have inhabited Mesech, || I have dwelt with tents of Kedar. Woe to me, that I sojourn in Meshech, that I dwell among the tents of Kedar! Woe to me that I dwell in Meshek, that I live among the tents of Kedar!
My soul has dwelt too much with him who is hating peace. Too long have I had my dwelling among those who hate peace. Too long have I lived among those who hate peace.
I—peace, and when I speak they [are] for war! I am for peace, but when I speak, they are for war! I am for peace; but when I speak, they are for war.
