when there happens to be the stillness of night and of darkness: in the twilight, in the evening, at the time of night and darkness. at twilight, as the day was fading, as the dark of night set in.
and the woman meets him having the appearance of a harlot, that causes the hearts of young men to flutter. And behold, the woman meets him, dressed as a prostitute, wily of heart. Then out came a woman to meet him, dressed like a prostitute and with crafty intent.
And she is fickle, and debauched, and her feet abide not at home. She is loud and wayward; her feet do not stay at home; (She is unruly and defiant, her feet never stay at home;
For at one time she wanders without, and at another time she lies in wait in the streets, at every corner. now in the street, now in the market, and at every corner she lies in wait. now in the street, now in the squares, at every corner she lurks.)
Then she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said to him, She seizes him and kisses him, and with bold face she says to him, She took hold of him and kissed him and with a brazen face she said:
I have a peace-offering; today I pay my vows: “I had to offer sacrifices, and today I have paid my vows; “Today I fulfilled my vows, and I have food from my fellowship offering at home.
therefore I came forth to meet thee, desiring thy face; and I have found thee. so now I have come out to meet you, to seek you eagerly, and I have found you. So I came out to meet you; I looked for you and have found you!
I have spread my bed with sheets, and I have covered it with double tapestry from Egypt. I have spread my couch with coverings, colored linens from Egyptian linen; I have covered my bed with colored linens from Egypt.
I have sprinkled my couch with saffron, and my house with cinnamon. I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon. I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes and cinnamon.
Come, and let us enjoy love until the morning; come, and let us embrace in love. Come, let us take our fill of love till morning; let us delight ourselves with love. Come, let’s drink deeply of love till morning; let’s enjoy ourselves with love!
For my husband is not at home, but is gone on a long journey, For my husband is not at home; he has gone on a long journey; My husband is not at home; he has gone on a long journey.
having taken in his hand a bundle of money: after many days he will return to his house. he took a bag of money with him; at full moon he will come home.” He took his purse filled with money and will not be home till full moon.”
So with much converse she prevailed on him to go astray, and with the snares of her lips forced him from the right path . With much seductive speech she persuades him; with her smooth talk she compels him. With persuasive words she led him astray; she seduced him with her smooth talk.
And he followed her, being gently led on, and that as an ox is led to the slaughter, and as a dog to bonds, or as a hart shot in the liver with an arrow: All at once he follows her, as an ox goes to the slaughter, or as a stag is caught fast All at once he followed her like an ox going to the slaughter, like a deer stepping into a noose
and he hastens as a bird into a snare, not knowing that he is running for his life. till an arrow pierces its liver; as a bird rushes into a snare; he does not know that it will cost him his life. till an arrow pierces his liver, like a bird darting into a snare, little knowing it will cost him his life.
Now then, my son, hearken to me, and attend to the words of my mouth. And now, O sons, listen to me, and be attentive to the words of my mouth. Now then, my sons, listen to me; pay attention to what I say.
Let not thine heart turn aside to her ways: Let not your heart turn aside to her ways; do not stray into her paths, Do not let your heart turn to her ways or stray into her paths.
for she has wounded and cast down many, and those whom she has slain are innumerable. for many a victim has she laid low, and all her slain are a mighty throng. Many are the victims she has brought down; her slain are a mighty throng.
Her house is the way of hell, leading down to the chambers of death. Her house is the way to Sheol, going down to the chambers of death. Her house is a highway to the grave, leading down to the chambers of death.
