1 A false ballaunce is an abomination vnto the Lorde: but a true wayght pleaseth him. A false balance is an abomination to the LORD, but a just weight is his delight. The LORD detests dishonest scales, but accurate weights find favor with him.
2 Where pryde is, there is shame also and confusion: but wheras is lowlinesse, there is wisdome. When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom. When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.
3 The innocent dealyng of the iust shall leade them: but the wickednesse of the offendours shalbe their owne destruction. The integrity of the upright guides them, but the crookedness of the treacherous destroys them. The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity.
4 Riches helpe not in the day of vengeaunce: but ryghteousnesse deliuereth from death. Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death. Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.
5 The ryghteousnesse of the innocent ordereth his way: but the vngodly shall fall in his owne wickednesse. The righteousness of the blameless keeps his way straight, but the wicked falls by his own wickedness. 6 The righteousnesse of the iust shall delyuer them: but the wicked shalbe taken in their owne vngodlynesse. 7 When an vngodly man dyeth, his hope is gone: the confidence of riches shall perishe. When the wicked dies, his hope will perish, and the expectation of wealth perishes too. Hopes placed in mortals die with them; all the promise of their power comes to nothing.
8 The ryghteous shalbe delyuered out of trouble: and the vngodly shall come in his steade. The righteous is delivered from trouble, and the wicked walks into it instead. The righteous person is rescued from trouble, and it falls on the wicked instead.
9 The dissembler with his mouth hurteth his neighbour: but through knowledge shall the iust be deliuered. With his mouth the godless man would destroy his neighbor, but by knowledge the righteous are delivered. With their mouths the godless destroy their neighbors, but through knowledge the righteous escape.
10 When it goeth well with the ryghteous the citie is mery: and when the vngodly perishe there is gladnesse. When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices, and when the wicked perish there are shouts of gladness. When the righteous prosper, the city rejoices; when the wicked perish, there are shouts of joy.
11 In the blessyng of the ryghteous the citie is exalted: but it is ouerthrowen by the mouth of the wicked. By the blessing of the upright a city is exalted, but by the mouth of the wicked it is overthrown. Through the blessing of the upright a city is exalted, but by the mouth of the wicked it is destroyed.
12 A foole slaundereth his neyghbour: but a wise man holdeth his peace. Whoever belittles his neighbor lacks sense, but a man of understanding remains silent. Whoever derides their neighbor has no sense, but the one who has understanding holds their tongue.
13 A dissemblyng person wyll discouer priuie thynges: but he that is of a faythfull heart wyll kepe counsayle. Whoever goes about slandering reveals secrets, but he who is trustworthy in spirit keeps a thing covered. A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy person keeps a secret.
14 Where no counsayle is, there the people decay: but wheras many are that can geue counsayle, there is wealth. Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety. For lack of guidance a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisers.
15 He that is suretie for a straunger shall smart for it: and he that hateth suretishyp is sure. Whoever puts up security for a stranger will surely suffer harm, but he who hates striking hands in pledge is secure. Whoever puts up security for a stranger will surely suffer, but whoever refuses to shake hands in pledge is safe.
16 A gratious woman getteth honour: but the strong men attayne riches. A gracious woman gets honor, and violent men get riches. A kindhearted woman gains honor, but ruthless men gain only wealth.
17 He that is mercifull, doth hym selfe a benefite: but who so hurteth his neyghbour, is a tiraunt. A man who is kind benefits himself, but a cruel man hurts himself. Those who are kind benefit themselves, but the cruel bring ruin on themselves.
18 The vngodly worketh deceiptfull workes: but he that soweth righteousnesse shall receaue a sure rewarde. The wicked earns deceptive wages, but one who sows righteousness gets a sure reward. A wicked person earns deceptive wages, but the one who sows righteousness reaps a sure reward.
19 Lyke as ryghteousnesse bringeth lyfe: euen so to cleaue vnto euyll, bryngeth death. Whoever is steadfast in righteousness will live, but he who pursues evil will die. Truly the righteous attain life, but whoever pursues evil finds death.
20 The Lorde abhorreth them that be of a corrupt heart: but he hath pleasure in them that are of an vndefiled conuersation. Those of crooked heart are an abomination to the LORD, but those of blameless ways are his delight. The LORD detests those whose hearts are perverse, but he delights in those whose ways are blameless.
21 Though hand be ioyned in hande, yet the wicked shall not escape: but the seede of the ryghteous shalbe preserued. Be assured, an evil person will not go unpunished, but the offspring of the righteous will be delivered. Be sure of this: The wicked will not go unpunished, but those who are righteous will go free.
22 A faire woman without discrete maners, is lyke a ryng of golde in a swines snoute. Like a gold ring in a pig’s snout is a beautiful woman without discretion. Like a gold ring in a pig’s snout is a beautiful woman who shows no discretion.
23 The desire of the ryghteous is acceptable: but the hope of the vngodly is indignation. The desire of the righteous ends only in good, the expectation of the wicked in wrath. The desire of the righteous ends only in good, but the hope of the wicked only in wrath.
24 Some man geueth out his goodes and is the richer: but the niggarde hauyng inough, wyll depart from nothyng, and yet is euer in pouertie. One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want. One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.
25 He that is liberall in geuyng, shall haue plentie: and he that watereth, shalbe watered also hym selfe. Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered. A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.
26 Who so hoordeth vp his corne, shalbe cursed among the people: but blessyng shall lyght vpon his head that geueth foode. The people curse him who holds back grain, but a blessing is on the head of him who sells it. People curse the one who hoards grain, but they pray God’s blessing on the one who is willing to sell.
27 He that searcheth for good thynges fyndeth fauour: but who so seketh after mischiefe, it shall happen vnto hym. Whoever diligently seeks good seeks favor, but evil comes to him who searches for it. Whoever seeks good finds favor, but evil comes to one who searches for it.
28 He that trusteth in his riches shall haue a fall: but the ryghteous shall florishe as the greene leafe. Whoever trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like a green leaf. Those who trust in their riches will fall, but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf.
29 Who so maketh disquietnesse in his owne house, he shal haue winde for his heritage: and the foole shalbe seruaunt to the wise. Whoever troubles his own household will inherit the wind, and the fool will be servant to the wise of heart. Whoever brings ruin on their family will inherit only wind, and the fool will be servant to the wise.
30 The fruite of the ryghteous is a tree of life: and he that winneth mens soules is wise. The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and whoever captures souls is wise. The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and the one who is wise saves lives.
31 If the ryghteous be recompensed vpon earth: howe much more then the vngodly and the sinner? If the righteous is repaid on earth, how much more the wicked and the sinner! If the righteous receive their due on earth, how much more the ungodly and the sinner!
