Wisdom cries out in the street; she raises her voice in the public squares. Wisdom cries aloud in the street, in the markets she raises her voice; Out in the open wisdom calls aloud, she raises her voice in the public square;
She calls out at the busiest part of the noisy streets, and at the entrance to the gates of the city she utters her words: at the head of the noisy streets she cries out; at the entrance of the city gates she speaks: on top of the wall she cries out, at the city gate she makes her speech:
|You naïve ones, how long will you love naivete? And how long will scoffers delight in scoffing or fools hate knowledge?| “How long, O simple ones, will you love being simple? How long will scoffers delight in their scoffing and fools hate knowledge? “How long will you who are simple love your simple ways? How long will mockers delight in mockery and fools hate knowledge?
Return to my correction! Look, I will pour out my spirit on you, and I will make my words known to you. If you turn at my reproof, behold, I will pour out my spirit to you; I will make my words known to you. Repent at my rebuke! Then I will pour out my thoughts to you, I will make known to you my teachings.
|Because I called out to you and you refused to respond— I appealed, but no one paid attention— Because I have called and you refused to listen, have stretched out my hand and no one has heeded, But since you refuse to listen when I call and no one pays attention when I stretch out my hand,
because you neglected all my advice and did not want my correction, because you have ignored all my counsel and would have none of my reproof, since you disregard all my advice and do not accept my rebuke,
I will laugh at your calamity. I will mock when what you fear comes, I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when terror strikes you, I in turn will laugh when disaster strikes you; I will mock when calamity overtakes you—
when what you dread comes like a storm, and your calamity comes on like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you. when terror strikes you like a storm and your calamity comes like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you. when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when disaster sweeps over you like a whirlwind, when distress and trouble overwhelm you.
|Then they will call out to me, but I will not answer; they will seek me diligently, but they will not find me. Then they will call upon me, but I will not answer; they will seek me diligently but will not find me. “Then they will call to me but I will not answer; they will look for me but will not find me,
|Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the LORD; Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the LORD, since they hated knowledge and did not choose to fear the LORD.
they did not want my advice, and they rejected all my correction. would have none of my counsel and despised all my reproof, Since they would not accept my advice and spurned my rebuke,
They will eat the fruit of their way, and they will be filled with their own devices. therefore they shall eat the fruit of their way, and have their fill of their own devices. they will eat the fruit of their ways and be filled with the fruit of their schemes.
Indeed, the waywardness of the naïve will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them. For the simple are killed by their turning away, and the complacency of fools destroys them; For the waywardness of the simple will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them;
|But the person who listens to me will live safely and will be secure from the fear of evil.| but whoever listens to me will dwell secure and will be at ease, without dread of disaster.” but whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm.”
