1 The LORD spoke to Moses: The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, The LORD said to Moses:
2 |Make two trumpets of silver; you are to make them from a single hammered piece. You will use them for assembling the community and for directing the traveling of the camps. “Make two silver trumpets. Of hammered work you shall make them, and you shall use them for summoning the congregation and for breaking camp. “Make two trumpets of hammered silver, and use them for calling the community together and for having the camps set out.
3 When they blow them both, all the community must come to you to the entrance of the tent of meeting. And when both are blown, all the congregation shall gather themselves to you at the entrance of the tent of meeting. When both are sounded, the whole community is to assemble before you at the entrance to the tent of meeting.
4 |But if they blow with one trumpet, then the leaders, the heads of the thousands of Israel, must come to you. But if they blow only one, then the chiefs, the heads of the tribes of Israel, shall gather themselves to you. If only one is sounded, the leaders—the heads of the clans of Israel—are to assemble before you.
5 When you blow an alarm, then the camps that are located on the east side must begin to travel. When you blow an alarm, the camps that are on the east side shall set out. When a trumpet blast is sounded, the tribes camping on the east are to set out.
6 And when you blow an alarm the second time, then the camps that are located on the south side must begin to travel. An alarm must be sounded for their journeys. And when you blow an alarm the second time, the camps that are on the south side shall set out. An alarm is to be blown whenever they are to set out. At the sounding of a second blast, the camps on the south are to set out. The blast will be the signal for setting out.
7 But when you assemble the community, you must blow, but you must not sound an alarm. But when the assembly is to be gathered together, you shall blow a long blast, but you shall not sound an alarm. To gather the assembly, blow the trumpets, but not with the signal for setting out.
8 The sons of Aaron, the priests, must blow the trumpets; and they will be to you for an eternal ordinance throughout your generations. And the sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow the trumpets. The trumpets shall be to you for a perpetual statute throughout your generations. “The sons of Aaron, the priests, are to blow the trumpets. This is to be a lasting ordinance for you and the generations to come.
9 If you go to war in your land against an adversary who opposes you, then you must sound an alarm with the trumpets, and you will be remembered before the LORD your God, and you will be saved from your enemies. And when you go to war in your land against the adversary who oppresses you, then you shall sound an alarm with the trumpets, that you may be remembered before the LORD your God, and you shall be saved from your enemies. When you go into battle in your own land against an enemy who is oppressing you, sound a blast on the trumpets. Then you will be remembered by the LORD your God and rescued from your enemies.
10 |Also in the time when you rejoice, such as on your appointed festivals or at the beginnings of your months, you must blow with your trumpets over your burnt offerings and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings, so that they may become a memorial for you before your God: I am the LORD your God.| On the day of your gladness also, and at your appointed feasts and at the beginnings of your months, you shall blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings. They shall be a reminder of you before your God: I am the LORD your God.” Also at your times of rejoicing—your appointed festivals and New Moon feasts—you are to sound the trumpets over your burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, and they will be a memorial for you before your God. 21 And the Kohathites set out, carrying the articles for the sanctuary; the tabernacle was to be set up before they arrived. 25 The standard of the camp of the Danites set out, which was the rear guard of all the camps by their companies; over his company was Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai. 28 These were the traveling arrangements of the Israelites according to their companies when they traveled. This was the order of march of the people of Israel by their companies, when they set out. This was the order of march for the Israelite divisions as they set out.
29 Moses said to Hobab son of Reuel, the Midianite, Moses' father-in-law, |We are journeying to the place about which the LORD said, 'I will give it to you.' Come with us and we will treat you well, for the LORD has promised good things for Israel.| And Moses said to Hobab the son of Reuel the Midianite, Moses’ father-in-law, “We are setting out for the place of which the LORD said, ‘I will give it to you.’ Come with us, and we will do good to you, for the LORD has promised good to Israel.” Now Moses said to Hobab son of Reuel the Midianite, Moses’ father-in-law, “We are setting out for the place about which the LORD said, ‘I will give it to you.’ Come with us and we will treat you well, for the LORD has promised good things to Israel.”
30 But Hobab said to him, |I will not go, but I will go instead to my own land and to my kindred.| But he said to him, “I will not go. I will depart to my own land and to my kindred.” He answered, “No, I will not go; I am going back to my own land and my own people.”
31 Moses said, |Do not leave us, because you know places for us to camp in the wilderness, and you could be our guide. And he said, “Please do not leave us, for you know where we should camp in the wilderness, and you will serve as eyes for us. But Moses said, “Please do not leave us. You know where we should camp in the wilderness, and you can be our eyes.
32 And if you come with us, it is certain that whatever good things the LORD will favor us with, we will share with you as well.| And if you do go with us, whatever good the LORD will do to us, the same will we do to you.” If you come with us, we will share with you whatever good things the LORD gives us.”
