1	The LORD spoke to Moses:	The LORD spoke to Moses, saying,	The LORD said to Moses:
2	“Make two trumpets of hammered silver to summon the community and have the camps set out.	“Make two silver trumpets. Of hammered work you shall make them, and you shall use them for summoning the congregation and for breaking camp.	“Make two trumpets of hammered silver, and use them for calling the community together and for having the camps set out.
3	When both are sounded in long blasts, the entire community is to gather before you at the entrance to the tent of meeting.	And when both are blown, all the congregation shall gather themselves to you at the entrance of the tent of meeting.	When both are sounded, the whole community is to assemble before you at the entrance to the tent of meeting.
4	However, if one is sounded, only the leaders, the heads of Israel’s clans, are to gather before you.	But if they blow only one, then the chiefs, the heads of the tribes of Israel, shall gather themselves to you.	If only one is sounded, the leaders—the heads of the clans of Israel—are to assemble before you.
5	“When you sound short blasts, the camps pitched on the east are to set out.	When you blow an alarm, the camps that are on the east side shall set out.	When a trumpet blast is sounded, the tribes camping on the east are to set out.
6	When you sound short blasts a second time, the camps pitched on the south are to set out. Short blasts are to be sounded for them to set out.	And when you blow an alarm the second time, the camps that are on the south side shall set out. An alarm is to be blown whenever they are to set out.	At the sounding of a second blast, the camps on the south are to set out. The blast will be the signal for setting out.
7	When calling the assembly together, you are to sound long blasts, not short ones.	But when the assembly is to be gathered together, you shall blow a long blast, but you shall not sound an alarm.	To gather the assembly, blow the trumpets, but not with the signal for setting out.
8	The sons of Aaron, the priests, are to sound the trumpets. Your use of these is a permanent statute throughout your generations.	And the sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow the trumpets. The trumpets shall be to you for a perpetual statute throughout your generations.	“The sons of Aaron, the priests, are to blow the trumpets. This is to be a lasting ordinance for you and the generations to come.
9	“When you enter into battle in your land against an adversary who is attacking you, sound short blasts on the trumpets, and you will be remembered before the LORD your God and be saved from your enemies.	And when you go to war in your land against the adversary who oppresses you, then you shall sound an alarm with the trumpets, that you may be remembered before the LORD your God, and you shall be saved from your enemies.	When you go into battle in your own land against an enemy who is oppressing you, sound a blast on the trumpets. Then you will be remembered by the LORD your God and rescued from your enemies.
10	You are to sound the trumpets over your burnt offerings and your fellowship sacrifices and on your joyous occasions, your appointed festivals, and the beginning of each of your months. They will serve as a reminder for you before your God: I am the LORD your God.”	On the day of your gladness also, and at your appointed feasts and at the beginnings of your months, you shall blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings. They shall be a reminder of you before your God: I am the LORD your God.”	Also at your times of rejoicing—your appointed festivals and New Moon feasts—you are to sound the trumpets over your burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, and they will be a memorial for you before your God. I am the LORD your God.”
11	During the second year, in the second month on the twentieth day of the month, the cloud was lifted up above the tabernacle of the testimony. 14	The military divisions of the camp of Judah’s descendants with their banner set out first, and Nahshon son of Amminadab was over their divisions. The divisions of the camp of Judah went first, under their standard. Nahshon son of Amminadab was in command.
15	Nethanel son of Zuar was over the division of the tribe of Issachar’s descendants,	And over the company of the tribe of the people of Issachar was Nethanel the son of Zuar.	Nethanel son of Zuar was over the division of the tribe of Issachar,
16	and Eliab son of Helon was over the division of the tribe of Zebulun’s descendants.	And over the company of the tribe of the people of Zebulun was Eliab the son of Helon.	and Eliab son of Helon was over the division of the tribe of Zebulun.
17	The tabernacle was then taken down, and the Gershonites and the Merarites set out, transporting the tabernacle.	And when the tabernacle was taken down, the sons of Gershon and the sons of Merari, who carried the tabernacle, set out.	Then the tabernacle was taken down, and the Gershonites and Merarites, who carried it, set out.
18	The military divisions of the camp of Reuben with their banner set out, and Elizur son of Shedeur was over their divisions.	And the standard of the camp of Reuben set out by their companies, and over their company was Elizur the son of Shedeur.	The divisions of the camp of Reuben went next, under their standard. Elizur son of Shedeur was in command.
19	Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai was over the division of the tribe of Simeon’s descendants,	And over the company of the tribe of the people of Simeon was Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai.	Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai was over the division of the tribe of Simeon,
20	and Eliasaph son of Deuel was over the division of the tribe of Gad’s descendants.	And over the company of the tribe of the people of Gad was Eliasaph the son of Deuel.	and Eliasaph son of Deuel was over the division of the tribe of Gad.
21	The Kohathites then set out, transporting the holy objects; the tabernacle was to be set up before their arrival.	Then the Kohathites set out, carrying the holy things, and the tabernacle was set up before their arrival.	Then the Kohathites set out, carrying the holy things. The tabernacle was to be set up before they arrived.
22	Next the military divisions of the camp of Ephraim’s descendants with their banner set out, and Elishama son of Ammihud was over their divisions. 25	The military divisions of the camp of Dan’s descendants with their banner set out, serving as rear guard for all the camps, and Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai was over their divisions.	Then the standard of the camp of the people of Dan, acting as the rear guard of all the camps, set out by their companies, and over their company was Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai.	Finally, as the rear guard for all the units, the divisions of the camp of Dan set out under their standard. Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai was in command.
26	Pagiel son of Ochran was over the division of the tribe of Asher’s descendants,	And over the company of the tribe of the people of Asher was Pagiel the son of Ochran.	Pagiel son of Okran was over the division of the tribe of Asher,
27	and Ahira son of Enan was over the division of the tribe of Naphtali’s descendants.	And over the company of the tribe of the people of Naphtali was Ahira the son of Enan.	and Ahira son of Enan was over the division of the tribe of Naphtali.
28	This was the order of march for the Israelites by their military divisions as they set out.	This was the order of march of the people of Israel by their companies, when they set out.	This was the order of march for the Israelite divisions as they set out.
29	Moses said to Hobab, descendant of Reuel the Midianite and Moses’s relative by marriage, “We’re setting out for the place the LORD promised, ‘I will give it to you.’ Come with us, and we will treat you well, for the LORD has promised good things to Israel.”	And Moses said to Hobab the son of Reuel the Midianite, Moses’ father-in-law, “We are setting out for the place of which the LORD said, ‘I will give it to you.’ Come with us, and we will do good to you, for the LORD has promised good to Israel.”	Now Moses said to Hobab son of Reuel the Midianite, Moses’ father-in-law, “We are setting out for the place about which the LORD said, ‘I will give it to you.’ Come with us and we will treat you well, for the LORD has promised good things to Israel.”
30	But he replied to him, “I don’t want to go. Instead, I will go to my own land and my relatives.”	But he said to him, “I will not go. I will depart to my own land and to my kindred.”	He answered, “No, I will not go; I am going back to my own land and my own people.”
31	“Please don’t leave us,” Moses said, “since you know where we should camp in the wilderness, and you can serve as our eyes.	And he said, “Please do not leave us, for you know where we should camp in the wilderness, and you will serve as eyes for us.	But Moses said, “Please do not leave us. You know where we should camp in the wilderness, and you can be our eyes.
32	If you come with us, whatever good the LORD does for us we will do for you.”	And if you do go with us, whatever good the LORD will do to us, the same will we do to you.”	If you come with us, we will share with you whatever good things the LORD gives us.”
33	They set out from the mountain of the LORD on a three-day journey with the ark of the LORD’s covenant traveling ahead of them for those three days to seek a resting place for them.	So they set out from the mount of the LORD three days’ journey. And the ark of the covenant of the LORD went before them three days’ journey, to seek out a resting place for them.	So they set out from the mountain of the LORD and traveled for three days. The ark of the covenant of the LORD went before them during those three days to find them a place to rest.

35	Whenever the ark set out, Moses would say: Arise, LORD! Let your enemies be scattered, and those who hate you flee from your presence.	And whenever the ark set out, Moses said, “Arise, O LORD, and let your enemies be scattered, and let those who hate you flee before you.”	Whenever the ark set out, Moses said, “Rise up, LORD! May your enemies be scattered; may your foes flee before you.”
36	When it came to rest, he would say: Return, LORD, to the countless thousands of Israel.	And when it rested, he said, “Return, O LORD, to the ten thousand thousands of Israel.”	Whenever it came to rest, he said, “Return, LORD, to the countless thousands of Israel.”
