1 Woe to the bloody city! It is all full of lies and robbery—no end to the prey. Woe to the bloody city, all full of lies and plunder— no end to the prey! Woe to the city of blood, full of lies, full of plunder, never without victims!
2 The noise of the whip, the noise of the rattling of wheels, prancing horses, and bounding chariots, The crack of the whip, and rumble of the wheel, galloping horse and bounding chariot! The crack of whips, the clatter of wheels, galloping horses and jolting chariots!
3 the horseman charging, and the flashing sword, the glittering spear, and a multitude of slain, and a great heap of corpses, and there is no end of the bodies. And all for the countless whorings of the prostitute, graceful and of deadly charms, who betrays nations with her whorings, and peoples with her charms. all because of the wanton lust of a prostitute, alluring, the mistress of sorceries, who enslaved nations by her prostitution and peoples by her witchcraft.
5 “Behold, I am against you,” says Yahweh of Armies, “and I will lift your skirts over your face. I will show the nations your nakedness, and the kingdoms your shame. 8 Are you better than No-Amon, who was situated among the rivers, who had the waters around her, whose rampart was the sea, and her wall was of the sea? Are you better than Thebes that sat by the Nile, with water around her, her rampart a sea, and water her wall? Are you better than Thebes, situated on the Nile, with water around her? The river was her defense, the waters her wall.

Your princes are like grasshoppers, your scribes like clouds of locusts settling on the fences in a day of cold— when the sun rises, they fly away; no one knows where they are.
