All the generations, therefore, from Abraham to David [are] fourteen generations, and from David to the Babylonian removal fourteen generations, and from the Babylonian removal to the Christ, fourteen generations. So all the generations from Abraham to David were fourteen generations, and from David to the deportation to Babylon fourteen generations, and from the deportation to Babylon to the Christ fourteen generations. Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Messiah.
And of Jesus Christ, the birth was thus: for His mother Mary having been betrothed to Joseph, before their coming together she was found to have conceived from the Holy Spirit, Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit.
and her husband Joseph being righteous, and not willing to make her an example, resolved to send her away privately. And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.
And on his thinking of these things, behold, a messenger of the LORD appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, you may not fear to receive your wife Mary, for that which was begotten in her is of [the] Holy Spirit, But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.
and she will bring forth a Son, and you will call His Name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”
And all this has come to pass, that it may be fulfilled that was spoken by the LORD through the prophet, saying, All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet:
“Behold, the virgin will conceive, and she will bring forth a Son, and they will call His Name Emmanuel,” which is, being interpreted, “God with us.” “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us). “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).
And Joseph, having risen from sleep, did as the messenger of the LORD directed him, and received his wife, When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife, When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife.
and did not know her until she brought forth her Son—the firstborn, and he called His Name Jesus. but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus. But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.
