1 The booke of the generation of Iesvs Christ the sonne of Dauid, the sonne of Abraham. The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham. This is the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah the son of David, the son of Abraham:
2 Abraham begate Isaac. And Isaac begate Iacob; Iacob begat Iudas and his brethren. Abraham was the father of Isaac, and Isaac the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers, Abraham was the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers,
3 And Iudas begate Phares, and Zara of Thamar; Phares begate Esrom; Esrom begate Aram. and Judah the father of Perez and Zerah by Tamar, and Perez the father of Hezron, and Hezron the father of Ram, Judah the father of Perez and Zerah, whose mother was Tamar, Perez the father of Hezron, Hezron the father of Ram,
4 And Aram begate Aminadab; Aminadab begate Naasson; Naasson begat Salmon. and Ram the father of Amminadab, and Amminadab the father of Nahshon, and Nahshon the father of Salmon, Ram the father of Amminadab, Amminadab the father of Nahshon, Nahshon the father of Salmon,
5 And Salmon begate Booz of Rachab; Booz begat Obed of Ruth; Obed begat Iesse. and Salmon the father of Boaz by Rahab, and Boaz the father of Obed by Ruth, and Obed the father of Jesse, Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab, Boaz the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth, Obed the father of Jesse,
6 And Iesse begate Dauid the King; Dauid the King begate Solomon of her that was the wife of Vrias. and Jesse the father of David the king. And David was the father of Solomon by the wife of Uriah, and Jesse the father of King David. David was the father of Solomon, whose mother had been Uriah’s wife,
7 And Solomon begate Roboam; Roboam begate Abia; Abia begate Asa. and Solomon the father of Rehoboam, and Rehoboam the father of Abijah, and Abijah the father of Asaph, Solomon the father of Rehoboam, Rehoboam the father of Abijah, Abijah the father of Asa,
8 And Asa begate Iosaphat; Iosaphat begate Ioram; Ioram begate Hozias. and Asaph the father of Jehoshaphat, and Jehoshaphat the father of Joram, and Joram the father of Uzziah, Asa the father of Jehoshaphat, Jehoshaphat the father of Jehoram, Jehoram the father of Uzziah,
9 And Hozias begat Ioatham; Ioatham begate Achaz; Achaz begate Ezekias. and Uzziah the father of Jotham, and Jotham the father of Ahaz, and Ahaz the father of Hezekiah, Uzziah the father of Jotham, Jotham the father of Ahaz, Ahaz the father of Hezekiah,
10 And Ezekias begate Manasses; Manasses begate Amon; Amon begate Iosias. and Hezekiah the father of Manasseh, and Manasseh the father of Amos, and Amos the father of Josiah, Hezekiah the father of Manasseh, Manasseh the father of Amon, Amon the father of Josiah,
11 And Iosias begate Iakim; Iakim begate Iechonias and his brethren about the time they were caried away to Babylon. and Josiah the father of Jechoniah and his brothers, at the time of the deportation to Babylon. and Josiah the father of Jeconiah and his brothers at the time of the exile to Babylon.
12 And after they were caried away into Babylon, Iechonias begate Salathiel. And Salathiel begate Zorobabel. And after the deportation to Babylon: Jechoniah was the father of Shealtiel, and Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel, After the exile to Babylon: Jeconiah was the father of Shealtiel, Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel,
13 And Zorobabel begate Abiud; Abiud begate Eliacim; Eliacim begate Azor. and Zerubbabel the father of Abiud, and Abiud the father of Eliakim, and Eliakim the father of Azor, Zerubbabel the father of Abihud, Abihud the father of Eliakim, Eliakim the father of Azor,
14 And Azor begate Sadoc; Sadoc begate Achim; Achim begate Eliud. and Azor the father of Zadok, and Zadok the father of Achim, and Achim the father of Eliud, Azor the father of Zadok, Zadok the father of Akim, Akim the father of Elihud,
15 And Eliud begate Eleazar; Eleazar begate Matthan; Matthan begate Iacob. and Eliud the father of Eleazar, and Eleazar the father of Matthan, and Matthan the father of Jacob, Elihud the father of Eleazar, Eleazar the father of Matthan, Matthan the father of Jacob,
16 And Iacob begat Ioseph ye husbad of Mary, of whom was borne Iesvs, that is called Christ. and Jacob the father of Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom Jesus was born, who is called Christ. and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, and Mary was the mother of Jesus who is called the Messiah.
17 So all the generations fro Abraham to Dauid, are fourtene generations; fro Dauid vntil they were caried away into Babylon, fourtene generations: and after they were caried away into Babylon vntill Christ, fourteene generations. So all the generations from Abraham to David were fourteen generations, and from David to the deportation to Babylon fourteen generations, and from the deportation to Babylon to the Christ fourteen generations. Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Messiah.
18 Nowe the birth of Iesvs Christ was thus, When as his mother Mary was betrothed to Ioseph, before they came together, shee was found with childe of the holy Ghost. Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit.
19 Then Ioseph her husbande being a iust man, and not willing to make her a publike example, was minded to put her away secretly. And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.
20 But whiles he thought these things, behold, the Angel of the Lorde appeared vnto him in a dreame, saying, Ioseph, the sonne of Dauid, feare not to take Mary thy wife: for that which is conceiued in her, is of the holy Ghost. But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.
21 And she shall bring foorth a sonne, and thou shalt call his name Iesvs: for hee shall saue his people from their sinnes. She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”
22 And al this was done that it might be fulfilled, which is spoken of the Lord by ye Prophet, saying, All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet:
23 Behold, a virgine shalbe with childe, and shall beare a sonne, & they shal call his name Emmanuel, which is by interpretation, God with vs. “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us). “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).
24 Then Ioseph, being raised from sleepe, did as the Angel of the Lorde had inioyned him, and tooke his wife. When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife, When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife.
25 But he knew her not, til she had broght forth her first borne sonne, & he called his name Iesus. but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus. But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.
