16 Καὶ οὗτοί εἰσιν ὁμοίως οἱ ἐπὶ τὰ πετρώδη σπειρόμενοι οἳ ὅταν ἀκούσωσιν τὸν λόγον εὐθὺς μετὰ χαρᾶς λαμβάνουσιν αὐτόν And these are the ones sown on rocky ground: the ones who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy. Others, like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy.
17 καὶ οὐκ ἔχουσιν ῥίζαν ἐν ἑαυτοῖς ἀλλὰ πρόσκαιροί εἰσιν εἶτα γενομένης θλίψεως διωγμοῦ διὰ τὸν λόγον εὐθὺς σκανδαλίζονται And they have no root in themselves, but endure for a while; then, when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately they fall away. But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.
