| 16 | Καὶ οὗτοί εἰσιν ὁμοίως οἱ ἐπὶ τὰ πετρώδη σπειρόμενοι οἳ ὅταν ἀκούσωσιν τὸν λόγον εὐθὺς μετὰ χαρᾶς λαμβάνουσιν αὐτόν | And these are the ones sown on rocky ground: the ones who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy. | Others, like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy. | |
| 17 | καὶ οὐκ ἔχουσιν ῥίζαν ἐν ἑαυτοῖς ἀλλὰ πρόσκαιροί εἰσιν εἶτα γενομένης θλίψεως ἢ διωγμοῦ διὰ τὸν λόγον εὐθὺς σκανδαλίζονται | And they have no root in themselves, but endure for a while; then, when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately they fall away. | But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. | |
