Remember, O Lord, what has befallen us. Consider and look kindly upon our disgrace. Remember, O LORD, what has befallen us; look, and see our disgrace! Remember, LORD, what has happened to us; look, and see our disgrace.
Our inheritance has been turned over to foreigners; our houses to outsiders. Our inheritance has been turned over to strangers, our homes to foreigners. Our inheritance has been turned over to strangers, our homes to foreigners.
We have become orphans without a father; our mothers are like widows. We have become orphans, fatherless; our mothers are like widows. We have become fatherless, our mothers are widows.
We paid for our drinking water. We acquired our wood for a price. We must pay for the water we drink; the wood we get must be bought. We must buy the water we drink; our wood can be had only at a price.
We were dragged by our necks. Being weary, no rest was given to us. Our pursuers are at our necks; we are weary; we are given no rest. Those who pursue us are at our heels; we are weary and find no rest.
We have given our hand to Egypt and to the Assyrians, so that we may be satisfied with bread. We have given the hand to Egypt, and to Assyria, to get bread enough. We submitted to Egypt and Assyria to get enough bread.
Our fathers have sinned, and are not. And we have carried their iniquities. Our fathers sinned, and are no more; and we bear their iniquities. Our ancestors sinned and are no more, and we bear their punishment.
Servants have become rulers over us. There was no one to redeem us from their hand. Slaves rule over us; there is none to deliver us from their hand. Slaves rule over us, and there is no one to free us from their hands.
We obtained our bread at the risk of our lives, before the face of the sword, in the wilderness. We get our bread at the peril of our lives, because of the sword in the wilderness. We get our bread at the risk of our lives because of the sword in the desert.
Our skin was burned, as if by an oven, before the face of the tempest of the famine. Our skin is hot as an oven with the burning heat of famine. Our skin is hot as an oven, feverish from hunger.
They humiliated the women in Zion and the virgins in the cities of Judah. Women are raped in Zion, young women in the towns of Judah. Women have been violated in Zion, and virgins in the towns of Judah.
The leaders were suspended by their hand. They were not ashamed before the faces of the elders. Princes are hung up by their hands; no respect is shown to the elders. Princes have been hung up by their hands; elders are shown no respect.
They have sexually abused the adolescents, and the children were corrupted in the wood. Young men are compelled to grind at the mill, and boys stagger under loads of wood. Young men toil at the millstones; boys stagger under loads of wood.
The elders have ceased from the gates, the youths from the choir of the psalms. The old men have left the city gate, the young men their music. The elders are gone from the city gate; the young men have stopped their music.
The gladness of our heart has failed, our singing has been turned into mourning. The joy of our hearts has ceased; our dancing has been turned to mourning. Joy is gone from our hearts; our dancing has turned to mourning.
The crown has fallen from our head. Woe to us, for we have sinned. The crown has fallen from our head; woe to us, for we have sinned! The crown has fallen from our head. Woe to us, for we have sinned!
Because of this, our heart became gloomy; for this reason, our eyes have been darkened: For this our heart has become sick, for these things our eyes have grown dim, Because of this our hearts are faint, because of these things our eyes grow dim
because of mount Zion, because it was ruined. Foxes have wandered upon it. for Mount Zion which lies desolate; jackals prowl over it. for Mount Zion, which lies desolate, with jackals prowling over it.
But you, O Lord, shall remain for eternity, your throne from generation to generation. But you, O LORD, reign forever; your throne endures to all generations. You, LORD, reign forever; your throne endures from generation to generation.
Why would you forget us forever? Why would you forsake us for a long time? Why do you forget us forever, why do you forsake us for so many days? Why do you always forget us? Why do you forsake us so long?
Convert us, O Lord, to you, and we shall be converted. Renew our days, as from the beginning. Restore us to yourself, O LORD, that we may be restored! Renew our days as of old— Restore us to yourself, LORD, that we may return; renew our days as of old
But you have utterly rejected us; you are vehemently angry against us. unless you have utterly rejected us, and you remain exceedingly angry with us. unless you have utterly rejected us and are angry with us beyond measure.
