Remember, O YHWH, what has happened to us! Look and see our disgrace! Remember, O LORD, what has befallen us; look, and see our disgrace! Remember, LORD, what has happened to us; look, and see our disgrace.
Our inheritance has been turned over to strangers, and our houses to foreigners. Our inheritance has been turned over to strangers, our homes to foreigners. Our inheritance has been turned over to strangers, our homes to foreigners.
Fatherless we have become, and those with no father; our mothers are now like widows. We have become orphans, fatherless; our mothers are like widows. We have become fatherless, our mothers are widows.
Our water for silver we drink, and our wood comes in with a price. We must pay for the water we drink; the wood we get must be bought. We must buy the water we drink; our wood can be had only at a price.
Upon our necks we are pursued; we grow weary, and no rest is unto us. Our pursuers are at our necks; we are weary; we are given no rest. Those who pursue us are at our heels; we are weary and find no rest.
To Egypt we have given our hand, to Assyria to be satisfied with bread. We have given the hand to Egypt, and to Assyria, to get bread enough. We submitted to Egypt and Assyria to get enough bread.
Our fathers sinned, and are no more, and we bear their iniquities. Our fathers sinned, and are no more; and we bear their iniquities. Our ancestors sinned and are no more, and we bear their punishment.
Servants rule over us; there is no one tearing us away from their hand. Slaves rule over us; there is none to deliver us from their hand. Slaves rule over us, and there is no one to free us from their hands.
With our soul we bring in our bread before the face of the sword in the wilderness. We get our bread at the peril of our lives, because of the sword in the wilderness. We get our bread at the risk of our lives because of the sword in the desert.
Our skin like an oven grows hot from the face of the burning heat of famine. Our skin is hot as an oven with the burning heat of famine. Our skin is hot as an oven, feverish from hunger.
The women in Zion they have pressed down, and the maidens in the cities of Judah. Women are raped in Zion, young women in the towns of Judah. Women have been violated in Zion, and virgins in the towns of Judah.
Princes were hanged by their hands; and the faces of the elders were not honored. Princes are hung up by their hands; no respect is shown to the elders. Princes have been hung up by their hands; elders are shown no respect.
Young men they have taken to grind, and boys stumble under the wood. Young men are compelled to grind at the mill, and boys stagger under loads of wood. Young men toil at the millstones; boys stagger under loads of wood.
The old men have ceased from the gate; the young men from their music. The old men have left the city gate, the young men their music. The elders are gone from the city gate; the young men have stopped their music.
The joy of our heart has ceased, our dancing has turned to mourning; The joy of our hearts has ceased; our dancing has been turned to mourning. Joy is gone from our hearts; our dancing has turned to mourning.
the crown has fallen from our head—woe to us, for we have sinned! The crown has fallen from our head; woe to us, for we have sinned! The crown has fallen from our head. Woe to us, for we have sinned!
Upon thus our heart has become faint; for these our eyes grow dim. For this our heart has become sick, for these things our eyes have grown dim, Because of this our hearts are faint, because of these things our eyes grow dim
For Mount Zion, which is desolate; foxes have walked upon it. for Mount Zion which lies desolate; jackals prowl over it. for Mount Zion, which lies desolate, with jackals prowling over it.
You, O YHWH, remain forever—Your throne from generation to generation. But you, O LORD, reign forever; your throne endures to all generations. You, LORD, reign forever; your throne endures from generation to generation.
Why do You forget us forever? You forsake us for a length of days. Why do you forget us forever, why do you forsake us for so many days? Why do you always forget us? Why do you forsake us so long?
Return us, O YHWH, to You, and we will return! Renew our days as of old, Restore us to yourself, O LORD, that we may be restored! Renew our days as of old— Restore us to yourself, LORD, that we may return; renew our days as of old
unless You have utterly rejected us, and remain angry with us even to exceedingly! unless you have utterly rejected us, and you remain exceedingly angry with us. unless you have utterly rejected us and are angry with us beyond measure.
