1 Now the family heads of the Levites approached Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the heads of the other tribes of Israel Then the heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites came to Eleazar the priest and to Joshua the son of Nun and to the heads of the fathers’ houses of the tribes of the people of Israel. 2 at Shiloh in the land of Canaan and said to them, “The LORD commanded through Moses that we be given cities in which to live, together with pasturelands for our livestock.” And they said to them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, “The LORD commanded through Moses that we be given cities to dwell in, along with their pasturelands for our livestock.” at Shiloh in Canaan and said to them, “The LORD commanded through Moses that you give us towns to live in, with pasturelands for our livestock.”
3 So by the command of the LORD, the Israelites gave the Levites these cities and their pasturelands out of their own inheritance: So by command of the LORD the people of Israel gave to the Levites the following cities and pasturelands out of their inheritance. So, as the LORD had commanded, the Israelites gave the Levites the following towns and pasturelands out of their own inheritance:
4 The first lot came out for the Kohathite clans. The Levites who were descendants of Aaron the priest received thirteen cities by lot from the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin. The lot came out for the clans of the Kohathites. So those Levites who were descendants of Aaron the priest received by lot from the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin, thirteen cities. The first lot came out for the Kohathites, according to their clans. The Levites who were descendants of Aaron the priest were allotted thirteen towns from the tribes of Judah, Simeon and Benjamin.
5 The remaining descendants of Kohath received ten cities by lot from the tribes of Ephraim, Dan, and the half-tribe of Manasseh. And the rest of the Kohathites received by lot from the clans of the tribe of Ephraim, from the tribe of Dan and the half-tribe of Manasseh, ten cities. The rest of Kohath’s descendants were allotted ten towns from the clans of the tribes of Ephraim, Dan and half of Manasseh.
6 The descendants of Gershon received thirteen cities by lot from the tribes of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali, and the half-tribe of Manasseh in Bashan. The Gershonites received by lot from the clans of the tribe of Issachar, from the tribe of Asher, from the tribe of Naphtali, and from the half-tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, thirteen cities. The descendants of Gershon were allotted thirteen towns from the clans of the tribes of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali and the half-tribe of Manasseh in Bashan.
7 And the descendants of Merari received twelve cities from the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and Zebulun. The Merarites according to their clans received from the tribe of Reuben, the tribe of Gad, and the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities. The descendants of Merari, according to their clans, received twelve towns from the tribes of Reuben, Gad and Zebulun.
8 So the Israelites allotted to the Levites these cities, together with their pasturelands, as the LORD had commanded through Moses. These cities and their pasturelands the people of Israel gave by lot to the Levites, as the LORD had commanded through Moses. So the Israelites allotted to the Levites these towns and their pasturelands, as the LORD had commanded through Moses.
9 From the tribes of Judah and Simeon, they designated these cities by name Out of the tribe of the people of Judah and the tribe of the people of Simeon they gave the following cities mentioned by name, From the tribes of Judah and Simeon they allotted the following towns by name
10 to the descendants of Aaron from the Kohathite clans of the Levites, because the first lot fell to them: which went to the descendants of Aaron, one of the clans of the Kohathites who belonged to the people of Levi; since the lot fell to them first. (these towns were assigned to the descendants of Aaron who were from the Kohathite clans of the Levites, because the first lot fell to them):
11 They gave them Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron), with its surrounding pasturelands, in the hill country of Judah. (Arba was the father of Anak.) They gave them Kiriath-arba (Arba being the father of Anak), that is Hebron, in the hill country of Judah, along with the pasturelands around it. They gave them Kiriath Arba (that is, Hebron), with its surrounding pastureland, in the hill country of Judah. (Arba was the forefather of Anak.)
12 But they had given the fields and villages around the city to Caleb son of Jephunneh as his possession. But the fields of the city and its villages had been given to Caleb the son of Jephunneh as his possession. 16 Ain, Juttah, and Beth-shemesh—nine cities from these two tribes, together with their pasturelands. Ain with its pasturelands, Juttah with its pasturelands, Beth-shemesh with its pasturelands—nine cities out of these two tribes; Ain, Juttah and Beth Shemesh, together with their pasturelands—nine towns from these two tribes.
17 And from the tribe of Benjamin they gave them Gibeon, Geba, then out of the tribe of Benjamin, Gibeon with its pasturelands, Geba with its pasturelands, And from the tribe of Benjamin they gave them Gibeon, Geba,
18 Anathoth, and Almon—four cities, together with their pasturelands. Anathoth with its pasturelands, and Almon with its pasturelands—four cities. Anathoth and Almon, together with their pasturelands—four towns.
19 In all, thirteen cities, together with their pasturelands, were given to the priests, the descendants of Aaron. The cities of the descendants of Aaron, the priests, were in all thirteen cities with their pasturelands. The total number of towns for the priests, the descendants of Aaron, came to thirteen, together with their pasturelands.
20 The remaining Kohathite clans of the Levites were allotted these cities: From the tribe of Ephraim As to the rest of the Kohathites belonging to the Kohathite clans of the Levites, the cities allotted to them were out of the tribe of Ephraim. The rest of the Kohathite clans of the Levites were allotted towns from the tribe of Ephraim:
21 they were given Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim (a city of refuge for the manslayer), Gezer, To them were given Shechem, the city of refuge for the manslayer, with its pasturelands in the hill country of Ephraim, Gezer with its pasturelands, In the hill country of Ephraim they were given Shechem (a city of refuge for one accused of murder) and Gezer,
22 Kibzaim, and Beth-horon—four cities, together with their pasturelands. Kibzaim with its pasturelands, Beth-horon with its pasturelands—four cities; Kibzaim and Beth Horon, together with their pasturelands—four towns.
23 From the tribe of Dan they were given Elteke, Gibbethon, and out of the tribe of Dan, Elteke with its pasturelands, Gibbethon with its pasturelands, Also from the tribe of Dan they received Eltekeh, Gibbethon,
24 Aijalon, and Gath-rimmon—four cities, together with their pasturelands. Aijalon with its pasturelands, Gath-rimmon with its pasturelands—four cities; Aijalon and Gath Rimmon, together with their pasturelands—four towns.
25 And from the half-tribe of Manasseh they were given Taanach and Gath-rimmon—two cities, together with their pasturelands. and out of the half-tribe of Manasseh, Taanach with its pasturelands, and Gath-rimmon with its pasturelands—two cities. From half the tribe of Manasseh they received Taanach and Gath Rimmon, together with their pasturelands—two towns.
26 In all, ten cities, together with their pasturelands, were given to the rest of the Kohathite clans. The cities of the clans of the rest of the Kohathites were ten in all with their pasturelands. All these ten towns and their pasturelands were given to the rest of the Kohathite clans.
27 This is what the Levite clans of the Gershonites were given: From the half-tribe of Manasseh they were given Golan in Bashan, a city of refuge for the manslayer, and Beeshterah—two cities, together with their pasturelands. And to the Gershonites, one of the clans of the Levites, were given out of the half-tribe of Manasseh, Golan in Bashan with its pasturelands, the city of refuge for the manslayer, and Beeshterah with its pasturelands—two cities; The Levite clans of the Gershonites were given: from the half-tribe of Manasseh, Golan in Bashan (a city of refuge for one accused of murder) and Be Eshterah, together with their pasturelands—two towns;

30 From the tribe of Asher they were given Mishal, Abdon, and out of the tribe of Asher, Mishal with its pasturelands, Abdon with its pasturelands, from the tribe of Asher, Mishal, Abdon,
31 Helkath, and Rehob—four cities, together with their pasturelands. Helkath with its pasturelands, and Rehob with its pasturelands—four cities; Helkath and Rehob, together with their pasturelands—four towns;
32 And from the tribe of Naphtali they were given Kedesh in Galilee (a city of refuge for the manslayer), Hammoth-dor, and Kartan—three cities, together with their pasturelands. and out of the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee with its pasturelands, the city of refuge for the manslayer, Hammoth-dor with its pasturelands, and Kartan with its pasturelands—three cities. from the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee (a city of refuge for one accused of murder), Hammoth Dor and Kartan, together with their pasturelands—three towns.
33 In all, thirteen cities, together with their pasturelands, were given to the Gershonite clans. The cities of the several clans of the Gershonites were in all thirteen cities with their pasturelands. The total number of towns of the Gershonite clans came to thirteen, together with their pasturelands.
34 This is what the Merarite clan (the rest of the Levites) were given: From the tribe of Zebulun they were given Jokneam, Kartah, And to the rest of the Levites, the Merarite clans, were given out of the tribe of Zebulun, Jokneam with its pasturelands, Kartah with its pasturelands, The Merarite clans (the rest of the Levites) were given: from the tribe of Zebulun, Jokneam, Kartah,
35 Dimnah, and Nahalal—four cities, together with their pasturelands. Dimnah with its pasturelands, Nahalal with its pasturelands—four cities; Dimnah and Nahalal, together with their pasturelands—four towns;
36 From the tribe of Reuben they were given Bezer, Jahaz, and out of the tribe of Reuben, Bezer with its pasturelands, Jahaz with its pasturelands, from the tribe of Reuben, Bezer, Jahaz,
37 Kedemoth, and Mephaath—four cities, together with their pasturelands. Kedemoth with its pasturelands, and Mephaath with its pasturelands—four cities; Kedemoth and Mephaath, together with their pasturelands—four towns;
38 And from the tribe of Gad they were given Ramoth in Gilead, a city of refuge for the manslayer, Mahanaim, and out of the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilead with its pasturelands, the city of refuge for the manslayer, Mahanaim with its pasturelands, from the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilead (a city of refuge for one accused of murder), Mahanaim,
39 Heshbon, and Jazer—four cities in all, together with their pasturelands. Heshbon with its pasturelands, Jazer with its pasturelands—four cities in all. Heshbon and Jazer, together with their pasturelands—four towns in all.
40 In all, twelve cities were allotted to the clans of Merari, the remaining Levite clans. As for the cities of the several Merarite clans, that is, the remainder of the clans of the Levites, those allotted to them were in all twelve cities. The total number of towns allotted to the Merarite clans, who were the rest of the Levites, came to twelve.
41 For the Levites, then, there were forty-eight cities in all, together with their pasturelands, within the territory of the Israelites. The cities of the Levites in the midst of the possession of the people of Israel were in all forty-eight cities with their pasturelands. The towns of the Levites in the territory held by the Israelites were forty-eight in all, together with their pasturelands.
42 Each of these cities had its own surrounding pasturelands; this was true for all the cities. These cities each had its pasturelands around it. So it was with all these cities. Each of these towns had pasturelands surrounding it; this was true for all these towns.
43 Thus the LORD gave Israel all the land He had sworn to give their fathers, and they took possession of it and settled in it. Thus the LORD gave to Israel all the land that he swore to give to their fathers. And they took possession of it, and they settled there. So the LORD gave Israel all the land he had sworn to give their ancestors, and they took possession of it and settled there.
44 And the LORD gave them rest on every side, just as He had sworn to their fathers. None of their enemies could stand against them, for the LORD delivered all their enemies into their hand. And the LORD gave them rest on every side just as he had sworn to their fathers. Not one of all their enemies had withstood them, for the LORD had given all their enemies into their hands. 45 Not one of all the LORD’s good promises to the house of Israel had failed; everything was fulfilled.
