1 Then the heads of households of the Levites came near to Eleazar the priest and to Joshua the son of Nun and to the heads of households of the tribes of the sons of Israel. Then the heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites came to Eleazar the priest and to Joshua the son of Nun and to the heads of the fathers’ houses of the tribes of the people of Israel. Now the family heads of the Levites approached Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the heads of the other tribal families of Israel
2 And they spoke to them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, saying, “Yahweh commanded by the hand of Moses to give us cities to live in, with their pasture lands for our cattle.” And they said to them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, “The LORD commanded through Moses that we be given cities to dwell in, along with their pasturelands for our livestock.” at Shiloh in Canaan and said to them, “The LORD commanded through Moses that you give us towns to live in, with pasturelands for our livestock.”
3 So the sons of Israel gave the Levites from their inheritance these cities with their pasture lands, according to the command of Yahweh. So by command of the LORD the people of Israel gave to the Levites the following cities and pasturelands out of their inheritance. So, as the LORD had commanded, the Israelites gave the Levites the following towns and pasturelands out of their own inheritance:
4 Then the lot came out for the families of the Kohathites. And the sons of Aaron the priest, who were of the Levites, received thirteen cities by lot from the tribe of Judah and from the tribe of the Simeonites and from the tribe of Benjamin. The lot came out for the clans of the Kohathites. So those Levites who were descendants of Aaron the priest received by lot from the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin, thirteen cities. The first lot came out for the Kohathites, according to their clans. The Levites who were descendants of Aaron the priest were allotted thirteen towns from the tribes of Judah, Simeon and Benjamin.
5 Now the rest of the sons of Kohath received ten cities by lot from the families of the tribe of Ephraim and from the tribe of Dan and from the half-tribe of Manasseh. And the rest of the Kohathites received by lot from the clans of the tribe of Ephraim, from the tribe of Dan and the half-tribe of Manasseh, ten cities. The rest of Kohath’s descendants were allotted ten towns from the clans of the tribes of Ephraim, Dan and half of Manasseh.
6 And the sons of Gershon received thirteen cities by lot from the families of the tribe of Issachar and from the tribe of Asher and from the tribe of Naphtali, and from the half-tribe of Manasseh in Bashan. The Gershonites received by lot from the clans of the tribe of Issachar, from the tribe of Asher, from the tribe of Naphtali, and from the half-tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, thirteen cities. The descendants of Gershon were allotted thirteen towns from the clans of the tribes of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali and the half-tribe of Manasseh in Bashan.
7 The sons of Merari according to their families received twelve cities from the tribe of Reuben and from the tribe of Gad and from the tribe of Zebulun. The Merarites according to their clans received from the tribe of Reuben, the tribe of Gad, and the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities. The descendants of Merari, according to their clans, received twelve towns from the tribes of Reuben, Gad and Zebulun.
8 So the sons of Israel gave by lot to the Levites these cities with their pasture lands, as Yahweh had commanded by the hand of Moses. These cities and their pasturelands the people of Israel gave by lot to the Levites, as the LORD had commanded through Moses. So the Israelites allotted to the Levites these towns and their pasturelands, as the LORD had commanded through Moses.
9 They also gave from the tribe of the sons of Judah and from the tribe of the sons of Simeon these cities which are here mentioned by name; Out of the tribe of the people of Judah and the tribe of the people of Simeon they gave the following cities mentioned by name, From the tribes of Judah and Simeon they allotted the following towns by name
10 and they were for the sons of Aaron, one of the families of the Kohathites, of the sons of Levi, for the lot was theirs first. which went to the descendants of Aaron, one of the clans of the Kohathites who belonged to the people of Levi; since the lot fell to them first. (these towns were assigned to the descendants of Aaron who were from the Kohathite clans of the Levites, because the first lot fell to them):
11 So they gave them Kiriath-arba (Arba being the father of Anak), that is, Hebron, in the hill country of Judah, with its pasture lands all around it. They gave them Kiriath-arba (Arba being the father of Anak), that is Hebron, in the hill country of Judah, along with the pasturelands around it. They gave them Kiriath Arba (that is, Hebron), with its surrounding pastureland, in the hill country of Judah. (Arba was the forefather of Anak.)
12 But the fields of the city and its villages they gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh as his possession. 13 Thus to the sons of Aaron the priest they gave Hebron, the city of refuge for the manslayer, with its pasture lands, Libnah also with its pasture lands, And to the descendants of Aaron the priest they gave Hebron, the city of refuge for the manslayer, with its pasturelands, Libnah with its pasturelands, So to the descendants of Aaron the priest they gave Hebron (a city of refuge for one accused of murder), Libnah,
14 Jattir with its pasture lands, Eshtemoa with its pasture lands, Jattir with its pasturelands, Eshtemoa with its pasturelands, Jattir, Eshtemoa,
15 Holon with its pasture lands, and Debir with its pasture lands, Holon with its pasturelands, Debir with its pasturelands, Holon, Debir,
16 and Ain with its pasture lands, and Juttah with its pasture lands, and Beth-shemesh with its pasture lands; nine cities from these two tribes. Ain with its pasturelands, Juttah with its pasturelands, Beth-shemesh with its pasturelands—nine cities out of these two tribes; Ain, Juttah and Beth Shemesh, together with their pasturelands—nine towns from these two tribes.
17 From the tribe of Benjamin, Gibeon with its pasture lands, Geba with its pasture lands, then out of the tribe of Benjamin, Gibeon with its pasturelands, Geba with its pasturelands, And from the tribe of Benjamin they gave them Gibeon, Geba,
18 Anathoth with its pasture lands and Almon with its pasture lands; four cities. Anathoth with its pasturelands, and Almon with its pasturelands—four cities. Anathoth and Almon, together with their pasturelands—four towns.
19 All the cities of the sons of Aaron, the priests, were thirteen cities with their pasture lands. The cities of the descendants of Aaron, the priests, were in all thirteen cities with their pasturelands. The total number of towns for the priests, the descendants of Aaron, came to thirteen, together with their pasturelands.
20 Then the cities from the tribe of Ephraim were allotted to the families of the sons of Kohath, the Levites, even to the rest of the sons of Kohath. As to the rest of the Kohathites belonging to the Kohathite clans of the Levites, the cities allotted to them were out of the tribe of Ephraim. The rest of the Kohathite clans of the Levites were allotted towns from the tribe of Ephraim:
21 And they gave them Shechem, the city of refuge for the manslayer, with its pasture lands, in the hill country of Ephraim, and Gezer with its pasture lands, To them were given Shechem, the city of refuge for the manslayer, with its pasturelands in the hill country of Ephraim, Gezer with its pasturelands, In the hill country of Ephraim they were given Shechem (a city of refuge for one accused of murder) and Gezer,
22 and Kibzaim with its pasture lands, and Beth-horon with its pasture lands; four cities. Kibzaim with its pasturelands, Beth-horon with its pasturelands—four cities; Kibzaim and Beth Horon, together with their pasturelands—four towns.
23 From the tribe of Dan, Elteke with its pasture lands, Gibbethon with its pasture lands, and out of the tribe of Dan, Elteke with its pasturelands, Gibbethon with its pasturelands, Also from the tribe of Dan they received Eltekeh, Gibbethon,
24 Aijalon with its pasture lands, and Gath-rimmon with its pasture lands; four cities. Aijalon with its pasturelands, Gath-rimmon with its pasturelands—four cities; Aijalon and Gath Rimmon, together with their pasturelands—four towns.
25 From the half-tribe of Manasseh, they gave Taanach with its pasture lands and Gath-rimmon with its pasture lands; two cities. and out of the half-tribe of Manasseh, Taanach with its pasturelands, and Gath-rimmon with its pasturelands—two cities. From half the tribe of Manasseh they received Taanach and Gath Rimmon, together with their pasturelands—two towns.
26 All the cities with their pasture lands for the families of the rest of the sons of Kohath were ten. The cities of the clans of the rest of the Kohathites were ten in all with their pasturelands. All these ten towns and their pasturelands were given to the rest of the Kohathite clans.
27 Now to the sons of Gershon, one of the families of the Levites, from the half-tribe of Manasseh, they gave Golan in Bashan, the city of refuge for the manslayer, with its pasture lands, and Be-eshterah with its pasture lands; two cities. And to the Gershonites, one of the clans of the Levites, were given out of the half-tribe of Manasseh, Golan in Bashan with its pasturelands, the city of refuge for the manslayer, and Beeshterah with its pasturelands—two cities; The Levite clans of the Gershonites were given: from the half-tribe of Manasseh, Golan in Bashan (a city of refuge for one accused of murder) and Be Eshterah, together with their pasturelands—two towns;
28 From the tribe of Issachar, they gave Kishion with its pasture lands, Daberath with its pasture lands, and out of the tribe of Issachar, Kishion with its pasturelands, Daberath with its pasturelands, from the tribe of Issachar, Kishion, Daberath,
29 Jarmuth with its pasture lands, En-gannim with its pasture lands; four cities. Jarmuth with its pasturelands, En-gannim with its pasturelands—four cities; Jarmuth and En Gannim, together with their pasturelands—four towns;
30 From the tribe of Asher, they gave Mishal with its pasture lands, Abdon with its pasture lands, and out of the tribe of Asher, Mishal with its pasturelands, Abdon with its pasturelands, from the tribe of Asher, Mishal, Abdon,
31 Helkath with its pasture lands and Rehob with its pasture lands; four cities. Helkath with its pasturelands, and Rehob with its pasturelands—four cities; Helkath and Rehob, together with their pasturelands—four towns;
32 From the tribe of Naphtali, they gave Kedesh in Galilee, the city of refuge for the manslayer, with its pasture lands and Hammoth-dor with its pasture lands and Kartan with its pasture lands; three cities. and out of the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee with its pasturelands, the city of refuge for the manslayer, Hammoth-dor with its pasturelands, and Kartan with its pasturelands—three cities. from the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee (a city of refuge for one accused of murder), Hammoth Dor and Kartan, together with their pasturelands—three towns.
33 All the cities of the Gershonites according to their families were thirteen cities with their pasture lands. The cities of the several clans of the Gershonites were in all thirteen cities with their pasturelands. The total number of towns of the Gershonite clans came to thirteen, together with their pasturelands.
34 Now to the families of the sons of Merari, the rest of the Levites, they gave from the tribe of Zebulun, Jokneam with its pasture lands and Kartah with its pasture lands. And to the rest of the Levites, the Merarite clans, were given out of the tribe of Zebulun, Jokneam with its pasturelands, Kartah with its pasturelands, The Merarite clans (the rest of the Levites) were given: from the tribe of Zebulun, Jokneam, Kartah,
35 Dimnah with its pasture lands, Nahalal with its pasture lands; four cities. Dimnah with its pasturelands, Nahalal with its pasturelands—four cities; Dimnah and Nahalal, together with their pasturelands—four towns;
36 From the tribe of Reuben, they gave Bezer with its pasture lands and Jahaz with its pasture lands, and out of the tribe of Reuben, Bezer with its pasturelands, Jahaz with its pasturelands, from the tribe of Reuben, Bezer, Jahaz,
37 Kedemoth with its pasture lands and Mephaath with its pasture lands; four cities. Kedemoth with its pasturelands, and Mephaath with its pasturelands—four cities; Kedemoth and Mephaath, together with their pasturelands—four towns;
38 From the tribe of Gad, they gave Ramoth in Gilead, the city of refuge for the manslayer, with its pasture lands and Mahanaim with its pasture lands, and out of the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilead with its pasturelands, the city of refuge for the manslayer, Mahanaim with its pasturelands, from the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilead (a city of refuge for one accused of murder), Mahanaim,
39 Heshbon with its pasture lands, Jazer with its pasture lands; four cities in all. Heshbon with its pasturelands, Jazer with its pasturelands—four cities in all. Heshbon and Jazer, together with their pasturelands—four towns in all.
40 All these were the cities of the sons of Merari according to their families, the rest of the families of the Levites; and their lot was twelve cities. As for the cities of the several Merarite clans, that is, the remainder of the clans of the Levites, those allotted to them were in all twelve cities. The total number of towns allotted to the Merarite clans, who were the rest of the Levites, came to twelve.
41 All the cities of the Levites in the midst of the possession of the sons of Israel were forty-eight cities with their pasture lands. The cities of the Levites in the midst of the possession of the people of Israel were in all forty-eight cities with their pasturelands. The towns of the Levites in the territory held by the Israelites were forty-eight in all, together with their pasturelands.
42 These cities each had its surrounding pasture lands; thus it was with all these cities. These cities each had its pasturelands around it. So it was with all these cities. Each of these towns had pasturelands surrounding it; this was true for all these towns.
43 So Yahweh gave Israel all the land which He had sworn to give to their fathers, and they possessed it and lived in it. Thus the LORD gave to Israel all the land that he swore to give to their fathers. And they took possession of it, and they settled there. So the LORD gave Israel all the land he had sworn to give their ancestors, and they took possession of it and settled there.
44 And Yahweh gave them rest on every side, according to all that He had sworn to their fathers, and no one of all their enemies stood before them; Yahweh gave all their enemies into their hand. And the LORD gave them rest on every side just as he had sworn to their fathers. Not one of all their enemies had withstood them, for the LORD had given all their enemies into their hands. The LORD gave them rest on every side, just as he had sworn to their ancestors. Not one of their enemies withstood them; the LORD gave all their enemies into their hands.
45 Not one promise of the good promises which Yahweh had promised to the house of Israel failed; all came to pass. Not one word of all the good promises that the LORD had made to the house of Israel had failed; all came to pass. Not one of all the LORD’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.
