1 Then the leaders of the families of Levi came to the priest Eleazar, to Joshua (son of Nun), and to the leaders of the families of the other Israelite tribes Then the heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites came to Eleazar the priest and to Joshua the son of Nun and to the heads of the fathers’ houses of the tribes of the people of Israel. Now the family heads of the Levites approached Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the heads of the other tribal families of Israel
2 at Shiloh in Canaan. They said to them, |The LORD commanded through Moses that we should receive cities to live in and pasturelands for our livestock.| And they said to them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, “The LORD commanded through Moses that we be given cities to dwell in, along with their pasturelands for our livestock.” at Shiloh in Canaan and said to them, “The LORD commanded through Moses that you give us towns to live in, with pasturelands for our livestock.”
3 So, as the LORD had instructed, Levi's descendants were given the following cities with pasturelands from the Israelites' inheritance. So by command of the LORD the people of Israel gave to the Levites the following cities and pasturelands out of their inheritance. So, as the LORD had commanded, the Israelites gave the Levites the following towns and pasturelands out of their own inheritance:
4 These are the cities for the families of Kohath that were chosen by drawing lots. These descendants of the priest Aaron the Levite received 13 cities from the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin. The lot came out for the clans of the Kohathites. So those Levites who were descendants of Aaron the priest received by lot from the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin, thirteen cities. The first lot came out for the Kohathites, according to their clans. The Levites who were descendants of Aaron the priest were allotted thirteen towns from the tribes of Judah, Simeon and Benjamin.
5 The rest of Kohath's descendants received 10 cities from the families of the tribes of Ephraim and Dan and half of the tribe of Manasseh. And the rest of the Kohathites received by lot from the clans of the tribe of Ephraim, from the tribe of Dan and the half-tribe of Manasseh, ten cities. The rest of Kohath’s descendants were allotted ten towns from the clans of the tribes of Ephraim, Dan and half of Manasseh.
6 Gershon's descendants received 13 cities from the families of the tribes of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali, and half of the tribe of Manasseh in Bashan. The Gershonites received by lot from the clans of the tribe of Issachar, from the tribe of Asher, from the tribe of Naphtali, and from the half-tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, thirteen cities. The descendants of Gershon were allotted thirteen towns from the clans of the tribes of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali and the half-tribe of Manasseh in Bashan.
7 Merari's descendants received 12 cities for their families from the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and Zebulun. The Merarites according to their clans received from the tribe of Reuben, the tribe of Gad, and the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities. The descendants of Merari, according to their clans, received twelve towns from the tribes of Reuben, Gad and Zebulun.
8 The Israelites gave these cities with pasturelands to Levi's descendants by drawing lots, as the LORD had commanded through Moses. These cities and their pasturelands the people of Israel gave by lot to the Levites, as the LORD had commanded through Moses. So the Israelites allotted to the Levites these towns and their pasturelands, as the LORD had commanded through Moses.
9 These are the names of the cities from the tribes of Judah and Simeon Out of the tribe of the people of Judah and the tribe of the people of Simeon they gave the following cities mentioned by name, From the tribes of Judah and Simeon they allotted the following towns by name
10 that they gave Aaron's descendants who were from the families of Kohath in the tribe of Levi. Their lot was the first one drawn. which went to the descendants of Aaron, one of the clans of the Kohathites who belonged to the people of Levi; since the lot fell to them first. (these towns were assigned to the descendants of Aaron who were from the Kohathite clans of the Levites, because the first lot fell to them):
11 They gave them Kiriath Arba (Arba was Anak's father) and the pastureland around it. This is the city of Hebron located in the mountains of Judah. They gave them Kiriath-arba (Arba being the father of Anak), that is Hebron, in the hill country of Judah, along with the pasturelands around it. They gave them Kiriath Arba (that is, Hebron), with its surrounding pastureland, in the hill country of Judah. (Arba was the forefather of Anak.)

13 So they gave the following cities with pasturelands to the descendants of Aaron, the priest. 17 The tribe of Benjamin also gave them four cities: Gibeon, Geba, then out of the tribe of Benjamin, Gibeon with its pasturelands, Geba with its pasturelands, And from the tribe of Benjamin they gave them Gibeon, Geba,
18 Anathoth, and Almon. Anathoth with its pasturelands, and Almon with its pasturelands—four cities. Anathoth and Almon, together with their pasturelands—four towns.
19 In all, 13 cities with pasturelands were given to the priests, the descendants of Aaron. The cities of the descendants of Aaron, the priests, were in all thirteen cities with their pasturelands. The total number of towns for the priests, the descendants of Aaron, came to thirteen, together with their pasturelands.
20 Cities were chosen by lot from the tribe of Ephraim to give to the rest of Levi's descendants who were from the families of Kohath. As to the rest of the Kohathites belonging to the Kohathite clans of the Levites, the cities allotted to them were out of the tribe of Ephraim. The rest of the Kohathite clans of the Levites were allotted towns from the tribe of Ephraim:

24 Aijalon, and Gath Rimmon. Aijalon with its pasturelands, Gath-rimmon with its pasturelands—four cities; Aijalon and Gath Rimmon, together with their pasturelands—four towns.
25 Half of the tribe of Manasseh gave them two cities with pasturelands: Taanach and Gath Rimmon. and out of the half-tribe of Manasseh, Taanach with its pasturelands, and Gath-rimmon with its pasturelands—two cities. From half the tribe of Manasseh they received Taanach and Gath Rimmon, together with their pasturelands—two towns.
26 In all, ten cities with pasturelands were given to the rest of the families of Kohath. The cities of the clans of the rest of the Kohathites were ten in all with their pasturelands. All these ten towns and their pasturelands were given to the rest of the Kohathite clans.
27 They gave the families of Gershon's descendants, who were in the tribe of Levi, two cities with pasturelands from half of the tribe of Manasseh: Golan in Bashan (a city of refuge for murderers) and Ashtaroth. And to the Gershonites, one of the clans of the Levites, were given out of the half-tribe of Manasseh, Golan in Bashan with its pasturelands, the city of refuge for the manslayer, and Beeshterah with its pasturelands—two cities; The Levite clans of the Gershonites were given: from the half-tribe of Manasseh, Golan in Bashan (a city of refuge for one accused of murder) and Be Eshterah, together with their pasturelands—two towns;

31 Helkath, and Rehob. Helkath with its pasturelands, and Rehob with its pasturelands—four cities; Helkath and Rehob, together with their pasturelands—four towns;
32 Also three cities with pasturelands were given to them from the tribe of Naphtali: Kedesh in Galilee (a city of refuge for murderers), Hammoth Dor, and Kartan. and out of the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee with its pasturelands, the city of refuge for the manslayer, Hammoth-dor with its pasturelands, and Kartan with its pasturelands—three cities. from the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee (a city of refuge for one accused of murder), Hammoth Dor and Kartan, together with their pasturelands—three towns.
33 In all, 13 cities with pasturelands were given to Gershon's families. The cities of the several clans of the Gershonites were in all thirteen cities with their pasturelands. The total number of towns of the Gershonite clans came to thirteen, together with their pasturelands.
34 To the families of Merari, who were from the tribe of Levi, the tribe of Zebulun gave four cities with pasturelands: Jokneam, Kartah, And to the rest of the Levites, the Merarite clans, were given out of the tribe of Zebulun, Jokneam with its pasturelands, Kartah with its pasturelands, The Merarite clans (the rest of the Levites) were given: from the tribe of Zebulun, Jokneam, Kartah,
35 Dimnah, and Nahalal. Dimnah with its pasturelands, Nahalal with its pasturelands—four cities; Dimnah and Nahalal, together with their pasturelands—four towns;
36 The tribe of Reuben also gave them four cities with pasturelands: Bezer, Jahaz, and out of the tribe of Reuben, Bezer with its pasturelands, Jahaz with its pasturelands, from the tribe of Reuben, Bezer, Jahaz,
37 Kedemoth, and Mephaath. Kedemoth with its pasturelands, and Mephaath with its pasturelands—four cities; Kedemoth and Mephaath, together with their pasturelands—four towns;
38 The tribe of Gad also gave them four cities with pasturelands: Ramoth in Gilead (a city of refuge for murderers), Mahanaim, and out of the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilead with its pasturelands, the city of refuge for the manslayer, Mahanaim with its pasturelands, from the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilead (a city of refuge for one accused of murder), Mahanaim,

40 All these cities belonged to the families of Merari. They were the last of the families of Levi. These 12 cities were chosen by lot. As for the cities of the several Merarite clans, that is, the remainder of the clans of the Levites, those allotted to them were in all twelve cities. The total number of towns allotted to the Merarite clans, who were the rest of the Levites, came to twelve.
41 Within the territory owned by the Israelites there were 48 cities in all for Levi's descendants. The cities of the Levites in the midst of the possession of the people of Israel were in all forty-eight cities with their pasturelands. The towns of the Levites in the territory held by the Israelites were forty-eight in all, together with their pasturelands.
42 Each of these cities had its own pastureland around it. These cities each had its pasturelands around it. So it was with all these cities. Each of these towns had pasturelands surrounding it; this was true for all these towns.
43 So the LORD gave Israel the whole land he had sworn to give their ancestors. They took possession of it and settled there. Thus the LORD gave to Israel all the land that he swore to give to their fathers. And they took possession of it, and they settled there.
