1 The Levite family heads approached the priest Eleazar, Joshua son of Nun, and the family heads of the Israelite tribes. Then the heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites came to Eleazar the priest and to Joshua the son of Nun and to the heads of the fathers’ houses of the tribes of the people of Israel. Now the family heads of the Levites approached Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the heads of the other tribal families of Israel
2 At Shiloh, in the land of Canaan, they told them, “The LORD commanded through Moses that we be given cities to live in, with their pasturelands for our livestock.” And they said to them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, “The LORD commanded through Moses that we be given cities to dwell in, along with their pasturelands for our livestock.” at Shiloh in Canaan and said to them, “The LORD commanded through Moses that you give us towns to live in, with pasturelands for our livestock.”
3 So the Israelites, by the LORD’s command, gave the Levites these cities with their pasturelands from their inheritance. So by command of the LORD the people of Israel gave to the Levites the following cities and pasturelands out of their inheritance. So, as the LORD had commanded, the Israelites gave the Levites the following towns and pasturelands out of their own inheritance:
4 The lot came out for the Kohathite clans: The Levites who were the descendants of the priest Aaron received thirteen cities by lot from the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin. The lot came out for the clans of the Kohathites. So those Levites who were descendants of Aaron the priest received by lot from the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin, thirteen cities. The first lot came out for the Kohathites, according to their clans. The Levites who were descendants of Aaron the priest were allotted thirteen towns from the tribes of Judah, Simeon and Benjamin.
5 The remaining descendants of Kohath received ten cities by lot from the clans of the tribes of Ephraim, Dan, and half the tribe of Manasseh. And the rest of the Kohathites received by lot from the clans of the tribe of Ephraim, from the tribe of Dan and the half-tribe of Manasseh, ten cities. The rest of Kohath’s descendants were allotted ten towns from the clans of the tribes of Ephraim, Dan and half of Manasseh.
6 Gershon’s descendants received thirteen cities by lot from the clans of the tribes of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali, and half the tribe of Manasseh in Bashan. The Gershonites received by lot from the clans of the tribe of Issachar, from the tribe of Asher, from the tribe of Naphtali, and from the half-tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, thirteen cities. The descendants of Gershon were allotted thirteen towns from the clans of the tribes of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali and the half-tribe of Manasseh in Bashan.
7 Merari’s descendants received twelve cities for their clans from the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and Zebulun. The Merarites according to their clans received from the tribe of Reuben, the tribe of Gad, and the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities. The descendants of Merari, according to their clans, received twelve towns from the tribes of Reuben, Gad and Zebulun.
8 The Israelites gave these cities with their pasturelands around them to the Levites by lot, as the LORD had commanded through Moses. These cities and their pasturelands the people of Israel gave by lot to the Levites, as the LORD had commanded through Moses. So the Israelites allotted to the Levites these towns and their pasturelands, as the LORD had commanded through Moses.
9 The Israelites gave these cities by name from the tribes of the descendants of Judah and Simeon Out of the tribe of the people of Judah and the tribe of the people of Simeon they gave the following cities mentioned by name, From the tribes of Judah and Simeon they allotted the following towns by name
10 to the descendants of Aaron from the Kohathite clans of the Levites, because they received the first lot. which went to the descendants of Aaron, one of the clans of the Kohathites who belonged to the people of Levi; since the lot fell to them first. (these towns were assigned to the descendants of Aaron who were from the Kohathite clans of the Levites, because the first lot fell to them):
11 They gave them Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron; Arba was the father of Anak) with its surrounding pasturelands in the hill country of Judah. They gave them Kiriath-arba (Arba being the father of Anak), that is Hebron, in the hill country of Judah, along with the pasturelands around it. They gave them Kiriath Arba (that is, Hebron), with its surrounding pastureland, in the hill country of Judah. (Arba was the forefather of Anak.)
12 But they gave the fields and settlements of the city to Caleb son of Jephunneh as his possession. 16 Ain with its pasturelands, Juttah with its pasturelands, and Beth-shemesh with its pasturelands—nine cities from these two tribes. Ain with its pasturelands, Juttah with its pasturelands, Beth-shemesh with its pasturelands—nine cities out of these two tribes; Ain, Juttah and Beth Shemesh, together with their pasturelands—nine towns from these two tribes.
17 From the tribe of Benjamin they gave: Gibeon with its pasturelands, Geba with its pasturelands, then out of the tribe of Benjamin, Gibeon with its pasturelands, Geba with its pasturelands, And from the tribe of Benjamin they gave them Gibeon, Geba,
18 Anathoth with its pasturelands, and Almon with its pasturelands—four cities. Anathoth with its pasturelands, and Almon with its pasturelands—four cities. Anathoth and Almon, together with their pasturelands—four towns.
19 All thirteen cities with their pasturelands were for the priests, the descendants of Aaron. The cities of the descendants of Aaron, the priests, were in all thirteen cities with their pasturelands. The total number of towns for the priests, the descendants of Aaron, came to thirteen, together with their pasturelands.
20 The allotted cities to the remaining clans of Kohath’s descendants, who were Levites, came from the tribe of Ephraim. As to the rest of the Kohathites belonging to the Kohathite clans of the Levites, the cities allotted to them were out of the tribe of Ephraim. The rest of the Kohathite clans of the Levites were allotted towns from the tribe of Ephraim:
21 The Israelites gave them: Shechem, the city of refuge for the one who commits manslaughter, with its pasturelands in the hill country of Ephraim, Gezer with its pasturelands, To them were given Shechem, the city of refuge for the manslayer, with its pasturelands in the hill country of Ephraim, Gezer with its pasturelands, In the hill country of Ephraim they were given Shechem (a city of refuge for one accused of murder) and Gezer,

24 Aijalon with its pasturelands, and Gath-rimmon with its pasturelands—four cities. Aijalon with its pasturelands, Gath-rimmon with its pasturelands—four cities; Aijalon and Gath Rimmon, together with their pasturelands—four towns.
25 From half the tribe of Manasseh they gave: Taanach with its pasturelands and Gath-rimmon with its pasturelands—two cities. and out of the half-tribe of Manasseh, Taanach with its pasturelands, and Gath-rimmon with its pasturelands—two cities. From half the tribe of Manasseh they received Taanach and Gath Rimmon, together with their pasturelands—two towns.
26 All ten cities with their pasturelands were for the clans of Kohath’s other descendants. The cities of the clans of the rest of the Kohathites were ten in all with their pasturelands. All these ten towns and their pasturelands were given to the rest of the Kohathite clans.
27 From half the tribe of Manasseh, they gave to the descendants of Gershon, who were one of the Levite clans: Golan, the city of refuge for the one who commits manslaughter, with its pasturelands in Bashan, and Beeshterah with its pasturelands—two cities. And to the Gershonites, one of the clans of the Levites, were given out of the half-tribe of Manasseh, Golan in Bashan with its pasturelands, the city of refuge for the manslayer, and Beeshterah with its pasturelands—two cities; The Levite clans of the Gershonites were given: from the half-tribe of Manasseh, Golan in Bashan (a city of refuge for one accused of murder) and Be Eshterah, together with their pasturelands—two towns;

31 Helkath with its pasturelands, and Rehob with its pasturelands—four cities. Helkath with its pasturelands, and Rehob with its pasturelands—four cities; Helkath and Rehob, together with their pasturelands—four towns;
32 From the tribe of Naphtali they gave: Kedesh in Galilee, the city of refuge for the one who commits manslaughter, with its pasturelands, Hammoth-dor with its pasturelands, and Kartan with its pasturelands—three cities. and out of the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee with its pasturelands, the city of refuge for the manslayer, Hammoth-dor with its pasturelands, and Kartan with its pasturelands—three cities. from the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee (a city of refuge for one accused of murder), Hammoth Dor and Kartan, together with their pasturelands—three towns.
33 All thirteen cities with their pasturelands were for the Gershonites by their clans. The cities of the several clans of the Gershonites were in all thirteen cities with their pasturelands. The total number of towns of the Gershonite clans came to thirteen, together with their pasturelands.
34 From the tribe of Zebulun, they gave to the clans of the descendants of Merari, who were the remaining Levites: Jokneam with its pasturelands, Kartah with its pasturelands, And to the rest of the Levites, the Merarite clans, were given out of the tribe of Zebulun, Jokneam with its pasturelands, Kartah with its pasturelands, The Merarite clans (the rest of the Levites) were given: from the tribe of Zebulun, Jokneam, Kartah,
35 Dimnah with its pasturelands, and Nahalal with its pasturelands—four cities. Dimnah with its pasturelands, Nahalal with its pasturelands—four cities; Dimnah and Nahalal, together with their pasturelands—four towns;

38 From the tribe of Gad they gave: Ramoth in Gilead, the city of refuge for the one who commits manslaughter, with its pasturelands, Mahanaim with its pasturelands, and out of the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilead with its pasturelands, the city of refuge for the manslayer, Mahanaim with its pasturelands, from the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilead (a city of refuge for one accused of murder), Mahanaim,
39 Heshbon with its pasturelands, and Jazer with its pasturelands—four cities in all. Heshbon with its pasturelands, Jazer with its pasturelands—four cities in all. Heshbon and Jazer, together with their pasturelands—four towns in all.
40 All twelve cities were allotted to the clans of Merari’s descendants, the remaining Levite clans. As for the cities of the several Merarite clans, that is, the remainder of the clans of the Levites, those allotted to them were in all twelve cities. The total number of towns allotted to the Merarite clans, who were the rest of the Levites, came to twelve.
41 Within the Israelite possession there were forty-eight cities in all with their pasturelands for the Levites. The cities of the Levites in the midst of the possession of the people of Israel were in all forty-eight cities with their pasturelands. The towns of the Levites in the territory held by the Israelites were forty-eight in all, together with their pasturelands.
42 Each of these cities had its own surrounding pasturelands; this was true for all the cities. These cities each had its pasturelands around it. So it was with all these cities. Each of these towns had pasturelands surrounding it; this was true for all these towns.
43 So the LORD gave Israel all the land he had sworn to give their ancestors, and they took possession of it and settled there. Thus the LORD gave to Israel all the land that he swore to give to their fathers. And they took possession of it, and they settled there. 44 The LORD gave them rest on every side according to all he had sworn to their ancestors. None of their enemies were able to stand against them, for the LORD handed over all their enemies to them.
