1 And all the congregation of the sons of Israel assembled at Shiloh, and they set up there the Tent of Meeting, and the land was subdued before them. Then the whole congregation of the people of Israel assembled at Shiloh and set up the tent of meeting there. The land lay subdued before them. The whole assembly of the Israelites gathered at Shiloh and set up the tent of meeting there. The country was brought under their control,
2 And there remained among the sons of Israel seven tribes that had not yet received their inheritance. There remained among the people of Israel seven tribes whose inheritance had not yet been apportioned. but there were still seven Israelite tribes who had not yet received their inheritance.
3 And Joshua said to the sons of Israel, “How long will you⁺ neglect to go in to possess the land that YHWH, God of your⁺ fathers, has given to you⁺? So Joshua said to the people of Israel, “How long will you put off going in to take possession of the land, which the LORD, the God of your fathers, has given you? So Joshua said to the Israelites: “How long will you wait before you begin to take possession of the land that the LORD, the God of your ancestors, has given you?
4 Appoint from among you⁺ three men for the tribe, and I will send them, and they shall rise and go through the land and survey it according to their inheritance, and they shall come to me. Provide three men from each tribe, and I will send them out that they may set out and go up and down the land. They shall write a description of it with a view to their inheritances, and then come to me. Appoint three men from each tribe. I will send them out to make a survey of the land and to write a description of it, according to the inheritance of each. Then they will return to me.
5 And they shall divide it into seven parts. Judah shall remain in their territory on the south, and the house of Joseph shall remain in their territory on the north. They shall divide it into seven portions. Judah shall continue in his territory on the south, and the house of Joseph shall continue in their territory on the north. You are to divide the land into seven parts. Judah is to remain in its territory on the south and the tribes of Joseph in their territory on the north.
6 And you⁺ shall write down the land in seven portions and bring it to me here, that I may cast for you⁺ lots here before the face of YHWH our God. And you shall describe the land in seven divisions and bring the description here to me. And I will cast lots for you here before the LORD our God. After you have written descriptions of the seven parts of the land, bring them here to me and I will cast lots for you in the presence of the LORD our God.
7 But no portion is for the Levites in your⁺ midst, for the priesthood of YHWH is their inheritance. And Gad and Reuben and the half-tribe of Manasseh have received their inheritance beyond the Jordan on the east, which Moses the servant of YHWH gave them.” The Levites have no portion among you, for the priesthood of the LORD is their heritage. And Gad and Reuben and half the tribe of Manasseh have received their inheritance beyond the Jordan eastward, which Moses the servant of the LORD gave them.” The Levites, however, do not get a portion among you, because the priestly service of the LORD is their inheritance. And Gad, Reuben and the half-tribe of Manasseh have already received their inheritance on the east side of the Jordan. Moses the servant of the LORD gave it to them.”
8 And the men arose and went, and Joshua commanded those who went to write down the land, saying, “Go and walk up and down in the land, and describe it, and return to me, and here I will cast for you⁺ lots before the face of YHWH in Shiloh.” So the men arose and went, and Joshua charged those who went to write the description of the land, saying, “Go up and down in the land and write a description and return to me. And I will cast lots for you here before the LORD in Shiloh.” As the men started on their way to map out the land, Joshua instructed them, “Go and make a survey of the land and write a description of it. Then return to me, and I will cast lots for you here at Shiloh in the presence of the LORD.”
9 And the men went and passed through the land, and they wrote it down by the cities in seven parts in a book, and they came to Joshua at the camp in Shiloh. So the men went and passed up and down in the land and wrote in a book a description of it by towns in seven divisions. Then they came to Joshua to the camp at Shiloh, So the men left and went through the land. They wrote its description on a scroll, town by town, in seven parts, and returned to Joshua in the camp at Shiloh.
10 And Joshua cast for them lots in Shiloh before the face of YHWH, and there Joshua divided the land to the sons of Israel according to their divisions. and Joshua cast lots for them in Shiloh before the LORD. And there Joshua apportioned the land to the people of Israel, to each his portion. Joshua then cast lots for them in Shiloh in the presence of the LORD, and there he distributed the land to the Israelites according to their tribal divisions.
11 And came up the lot of the tribe of the sons of Benjamin by their clans, and the territory of their lot came out between the sons of Judah and between the sons of Joseph. The lot of the tribe of the people of Benjamin according to its clans came up, and the territory allotted to it fell between the people of Judah and the people of Joseph. The first lot came up for the tribe of Benjamin according to its clans. Their allotted territory lay between the tribes of Judah and Joseph:
12 And their border began on the north side at the Jordan, and the border went up to the shoulder of Jericho on the north, and it went up through the hill country westward, and its outgoing was at the Wilderness of Beth-aven. On the north side their boundary began at the Jordan. Then the boundary goes up to the shoulder north of Jericho, then up through the hill country westward, and it ends at the wilderness of Beth-aven. On the north side their boundary began at the Jordan, passed the northern slope of Jericho and headed west into the hill country, coming out at the wilderness of Beth Aven.
13 And the border went over from there toward Luz, to the shoulder of Luz (that is, Bethel) southward, and the border descended to Ataroth-addar, near the hill that is on the south of Lower Beth-horon. From there the boundary passes along southward in the direction of Luz, to the shoulder of Luz (that is, Bethel), then the boundary goes down to Ataroth-addar, on the mountain that lies south of Lower Beth-horon. From there it crossed to the south slope of Luz (that is, Bethel) and went down to Ataroth Addar on the hill south of Lower Beth Horon.
14 And the border extended and has gone round to the corner of the sea southward, from the hill that is at the front of Beth-horon southward, and it ended at Kiriath-baal (that is, Kiriath-jearim), a city of the sons of Judah. This was the west side. Then the boundary goes in another direction, turning on the western side southward from the mountain that lies to the south, opposite Beth-horon, and it ends at Kiriath-baal (that is, Kiriath-jearim), a city belonging to the people of Judah. This forms the western side. From the hill facing Beth Horon on the south the boundary turned south along the western side and came out at Kiriath Baal (that is, Kiriath Jearim), a town of the people of Judah. This was the western side.
15 And the south side is at the end of Kiriath-jearim, and the border extended on the west and went out to the spring at the Waters of Nephtoah. And the southern side begins at the outskirts of Kiriath-jearim. And the boundary goes from there to Ephron, to the spring of the waters of Nephtoah. The southern side began at the outskirts of Kiriath Jearim on the west, and the boundary came out at the spring of the waters of Nephtoah.
16 And the border came down to the end of the mountain that is upon the face of the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, which is in the Valley of Rephaim on the north, and descended to the Valley of Hinnom, to the shoulder of the Jebusite on the south, and descended to En-rogel. Then the boundary goes down to the border of the mountain that overlooks the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, which is at the north end of the Valley of Rephaim. And it then goes down the Valley of Hinnom, south of the shoulder of the Jebusites, and downward to En-rogel. The boundary went down to the foot of the hill facing the Valley of Ben Hinnom, north of the Valley of Rephaim. It continued down the Hinnom Valley along the southern slope of the Jebusite city and so to En Rogel.
17 And it went around from the north, and went out to En-shemesh, and extended toward Geliloth, which is before the Ascent of Adummim, and descended to the stone of Bohan son of Reuben, Then it bends in a northerly direction going on to En-shemesh, and from there goes to Geliloth, which is opposite the ascent of Adummim. Then it goes down to the stone of Bohan the son of Reuben, It then curved north, went to En Shemesh, continued to Geliloth, which faces the Pass of Adummim, and ran down to the Stone of Bohan son of Reuben.
18 and it passed over to the slope of Beth-arabah northward, and went down to the Arabah. and passing on to the north of the shoulder of Beth-arabah it goes down to the Arabah. It continued to the northern slope of Beth Arabah and on down into the Arabah.
19 And the border passed over to the shoulder of Beth-hoglah northward, and the outgoings of the border were at the north bay of the Salt Sea, at the south end of the Jordan. This is the south border. Then the boundary passes on to the north of the shoulder of Beth-hoglah. And the boundary ends at the northern bay of the Salt Sea, at the south end of the Jordan: this is the southern border. It then went to the northern slope of Beth Hoglah and came out at the northern bay of the Dead Sea, at the mouth of the Jordan in the south. This was the southern boundary.
20 And the Jordan bordered it on the east side. This was the inheritance of the sons of Benjamin, according to its boundaries all around, by their clans. The Jordan forms its boundary on the eastern side. This is the inheritance of the people of Benjamin, according to their clans, boundary by boundary all around. The Jordan formed the boundary on the eastern side. These were the boundaries that marked out the inheritance of the clans of Benjamin on all sides.
21 And these were and the cities of the tribe of the sons of Benjamin by their clans: Jericho, and Beth-hoglah, and Emek-keziz, Now the cities of the tribe of the people of Benjamin according to their clans were Jericho, Beth-hoglah, Emek-keziz, The tribe of Benjamin, according to its clans, had the following towns: Jericho, Beth Hoglah, Emek Keziz,
22 and Beth-arabah, and Zemaraim, and Bethel, Beth-arabah, Zemaraim, Bethel, Beth Arabah, Zemaraim, Bethel,
23 and Avim, and Parah, and Ophrah, Avvim, Parah, Ophrah, Avvim, Parah, Ophrah,
24 and Chephar-ammoni, and Ophni, and Geba—twelve cities, and their villages. Chephar-ammoni, Ophni, Geba—twelve cities with their villages: Kephar Ammoni, Ophni and Geba—twelve towns and their villages.
25 Gibeon, and Ramah, and Beeroth, Gibeon, Ramah, Beeroth, Gibeon, Ramah, Beeroth,
26 and Mizpah, and Chephirah, and Mozah, Mizpeh, Chephirah, Mozah, Mizpah, Kephirah, Mozah,
27 and Rekem, and Irpeel, and Taralah, Rekem, Irpeel, Taralah, Rekem, Irpeel, Taralah,
28 Zelah, and Haeleph, and Jebus (that is, Jerusalem), Gibeath, and Kiriath-jearim—fourteen cities, and their villages. This was the inheritance of the sons of Benjamin by their clans. Zela, Haeleph, Jebus (that is, Jerusalem), Gibeah and Kiriath-jearim—fourteen cities with their villages. This is the inheritance of the people of Benjamin according to its clans. Zelah, Haeleph, the Jebusite city (that is, Jerusalem), Gibeah and Kiriath—fourteen towns and their villages. This was the inheritance of Benjamin for its clans.
