| 29 | σκεῦος ἔκειτο ὄξους μεστόν σπόγγον οὖν μεστὸν τοῦ ὄξους ὑσσώπῳ περιθέντες προσήνεγκαν αὐτοῦ τῷ στόματι | A jar full of sour wine stood there, so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it to his mouth. | A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips. | |
| 30 | ὅτε οὖν ἔλαβεν τὸ ὄξος ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν Τετέλεσται καὶ κλίνας τὴν κεφαλὴν παρέδωκεν τὸ πνεῦμα | When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. | When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. | |
