11 Ταῦτα εἶπεν καὶ μετὰ τοῦτο λέγει αὐτοῖς Λάζαρος ὁ φίλος ἡμῶν κεκοίμηται ἀλλὰ πορεύομαι ἵνα ἐξυπνίσω αὐτόν After saying these things, he said to them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I go to awaken him.” After he had said this, he went on to tell them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I am going there to wake him up.”
12 Εἶπαν οὖν οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτῷ Κύριε εἰ κεκοίμηται σωθήσεται The disciples said to him, “Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will recover.” His disciples replied, “Lord, if he sleeps, he will get better.”
13 εἰρήκει δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς περὶ τοῦ θανάτου αὐτοῦ ἐκεῖνοι δὲ ἔδοξαν ὅτι περὶ τῆς κοιμήσεως τοῦ ὕπνου λέγει Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that he meant taking rest in sleep. Jesus had been speaking of his death, but his disciples thought he meant natural sleep.
