1 And Eliphaz the Temanite will answer and say, Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said: Then Eliphaz the Temanite replied:
2 Trying the word to thee shalt thou be weary? who shall be able to with hold in speaking? “If one ventures a word with you, will you be impatient? Yet who can keep from speaking? “If someone ventures a word with you, will you be impatient? But who can keep from speaking?
3 Behold, thou didst instruct many, and thou wilt strengthen the weak hands. Behold, you have instructed many, and you have strengthened the weak hands. Think how you have instructed many, how you have strengthened feeble hands.
4 Thy words will raise up the weak and thou wilt strengthen the bent knees. Your words have upheld him who was stumbling, and you have made firm the feeble knees. Your words have supported those who stumbled; you have strengthened faltering knees.
5 But now it shall come to thee and thou wilt be wearied; it will touch even to thee, and thou wilt tremble. But now it has come to you, and you are impatient; it touches you, and you are dismayed. But now trouble comes to you, and you are discouraged; it strikes you, and you are dismayed.
6 Is not thy fear, thy confidence, thy hope, and the integrity of thy ways? Is not your fear of God your confidence, and the integrity of your ways your hope? Should not your piety be your confidence and your blameless ways your hope?
7 Remember now, who perished, he being innocent? and where were the upright cut off? “Remember: who that was innocent ever perished? Or where were the upright cut off? “Consider now: Who, being innocent, has ever perished? Where were the upright ever destroyed?
8 According to what I saw, they ploughing iniquity and sowing labor shall reap it. As I have seen, those who plow iniquity and sow trouble reap the same. As I have observed, those who plow evil and those who sow trouble reap it.
9 By the breath of God they shall perish, and from the spirit of his anger they shall be finished. By the breath of God they perish, and by the blast of his anger they are consumed. At the breath of God they perish; at the blast of his anger they are no more.
10 The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the lion, and the teeth of the young lions were broken. The roar of the lion, the voice of the fierce lion, the teeth of the young lions are broken. The lions may roar and growl, yet the teeth of the great lions are broken.
11 The lion perished from failure of prey, and the sons of the lioness shall be scattered. The strong lion perishes for lack of prey, and the cubs of the lioness are scattered. The lion perishes for lack of prey, and the cubs of the lioness are scattered.
12 And a word shall be brought to me by stealth, and mine ear will take a transient sound from it. “Now a word was brought to me stealthily; my ear received the whisper of it. “A word was secretly brought to me, my ears caught a whisper of it.
13 In thoughts, from visions of the night, in the falling of deep sleep upon men, Amid thoughts from visions of the night, when deep sleep falls on men, Amid disquieting dreams in the night, when deep sleep falls on people,
14 Fear met me, and trembling, and caused the multitude of my bones to tremble. dread came upon me, and trembling, which made all my bones shake. fear and trembling seized me and made all my bones shake.
15 And the spirit will glide before my face; the hair of my flesh will stand erect: A spirit glided past my face; the hair of my flesh stood up. A spirit glided past my face, and the hair on my body stood on end.
16 It will stand, and I shall not recognize its appearance: a form before mine eyes; I shall hear stillness and a voice: It stood still, but I could not discern its appearance. A form was before my eyes; there was silence, then I heard a voice: It stopped, but I could not tell what it was. A form stood before my eyes, and I heard a hushed voice:
17 Shall a man be just above God? If a man shall be pure above him making him? ‘Can mortal man be in the right before God? Can a man be pure before his Maker? Can a mortal be more righteous than God? Can even a strong man be more pure than his Maker?
18 Behold, in his servants he will not trust, and upon his messengers he will set folly: Even in his servants he puts no trust, and his angels he charges with error; If God places no trust in his servants, if he charges his angels with error,
19 Also those dwelling in houses of clay which their foundation in the dust, being crushed before the moth. how much more those who dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed like the moth. how much more those who live in houses of clay, whose foundations are in the dust, who are crushed more readily than a moth!
20 From morning to evening they will be struck; from not setting to superintend they will perish. Between morning and evening they are beaten to pieces; they perish forever without anyone regarding it. Between dawn and dusk they are broken to pieces; unnoticed, they perish forever.
21 Did not their remainder in them remove? They will die, and not in wisdom. Is not their tent-cord plucked up within them, do they not die, and that without wisdom?’ Are not the cords of their tent pulled up, so that they die without wisdom?’
