| 2you who call yourselves citizens of the holy city and claim to rely on the God of Israel-- the LORD Almighty is his name: | 2For they call themselves after the holy city, and stay themselves on the God of Israel; the LORD of hosts is his name. | 2"For they call themselves after the holy city And lean on the God of Israel; The LORD of hosts is His name. | 2For they call themselves of the holy city, and stay themselves upon the God of Israel; The LORD of hosts is his name. | 2For they are named after the Holy City, and lean on the God of Israel; His name is Yahweh of Hosts. |
| 3I foretold the former things long ago, my mouth announced them and I made them known; then suddenly I acted, and they came to pass. | 3“The former things I declared of old; they went out from my mouth, and I announced them; then suddenly I did them, and they came to pass. | 3"I declared the former things long ago And they went forth from My mouth, and I proclaimed them. | 5Therefore I told you these things long ago; before they happened I announced them to you so that you could not say, 'My images brought them about; my wooden image and metal god ordained them.' | 5I declared them to you from of old, before they came to pass I announced them to you, lest you should say, ‘My idol did them, my carved image and my metal image commanded them.’ | 5Therefore I declared them to you long ago, Before they took place I proclaimed them to you, So that you would not say, 'My idol has done them, And my graven image and my molten image have commanded them.' | 5I have even from the beginning declared it to thee; before it came to pass I shewed it thee: lest thou shouldest say, Mine idol hath done them, and my graven image, and my molten image, hath commanded them. | 5therefore I declared to you long ago. | 6You have heard these things; look at them all. Will you not admit them? "From now on I will tell you of new things, of hidden things unknown to you. | 6“You have heard; now see all this; and will you not declare it? From this time forth I announce to you new things, hidden things that you have not known. | 6"You have heard; look at all this. And you, will you not declare it? I proclaim to you new things from this time, Even hidden things which you have not known. | 6Thou hast heard, see all this; and will not ye declare it? I have shewed thee new things from this time, even hidden things, and thou didst not know them. | 6You have heard it. Observe it all. Will you not acknowledge it? From now on I will announce new things to you, hidden things that you have not known. |
| 7They are created now, and not long ago; you have not heard of them before today. | 8You have neither heard nor understood; from of old your ears have not been open. Well do I know how treacherous you are; you were called a rebel from birth. | 8You have never heard, you have never known, from of old your ear has not been opened. For I knew that you would surely deal treacherously, and that from before birth you were called a rebel. | 8"You have not heard, you have not known. Even from long ago your ear has not been open, Because I knew that you would deal very treacherously; And you have been called a rebel from birth. | 8Yea, thou heardest not; yea, thou knewest not; yea, from that time that thine ear was not opened: for I knew that thou wouldest deal very treacherously, and wast called a transgressor from the womb. | 8You have never heard; you have never known; For a long time your ears have not been open. | 9For my own name's sake I delay my wrath; for the sake of my praise I hold it back from you, so as not to destroy you completely. | 9“For my name’s sake I defer my anger; for the sake of my praise I restrain it for you, that I may not cut you off. | 9"For the sake of My name I delay My wrath, And for My praise I restrain it for you, In order not to cut you off. | 9For my name's sake will I defer mine anger, and for my praise will I refrain for thee, that I cut thee not off. | 9I will delay My anger for the honor of My name, and I will restrain Myself for your benefit and for My praise, so that you will not be destroyed. |

| 11For my own sake, for my own sake, I do this. How can I let myself be defamed? | 18If only you had paid attention to my commands, your peace would have been like a river, your well-being like the waves of the sea. | 18Oh that you had paid attention to my commandments! | 20Leave Babylon, flee from the Babylonians! Announce this with shouts of joy and proclaim it.
