1 O LORD {YHWH}, You are my God {Elohay}! I will exalt You; I will praise Your name. For You have worked wonders—plans formed long ago—in perfect faithfulness. O LORD, you are my God; I will exalt you; I will praise your name, for you have done wonderful things, plans formed of old, faithful and sure. LORD, you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name, for in perfect faithfulness you have done wonderful things, things planned long ago.
2 Indeed, You have made the city a heap of rubble, the fortified town a ruin. The fortress of strangers is a city no more; it will never be rebuilt. For you have made the city a heap, the fortified city a ruin; the foreigners’ palace is a city no more; it will never be rebuilt. You have made the city a heap of rubble, the fortified town a ruin, the foreigners’ stronghold a city no more; it will never be rebuilt.
3 Therefore, a strong people will honor You. The cities of ruthless nations will revere You. Therefore strong peoples will glorify you; cities of ruthless nations will fear you. Therefore strong peoples will honor you; cities of ruthless nations will revere you.
4 For You have been a refuge for the poor, a stronghold for the needy in distress, a refuge from the storm, a shade from the heat. For the breath {ruach} of the ruthless is like rain against a wall, For you have been a stronghold to the poor, a stronghold to the needy in his distress, a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat; for the breath of the ruthless is like a storm against a wall, You have been a refuge for the poor, a refuge for the needy in their distress, a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat. 5 like heat in a dry land. You subdue the uproar of foreigners. As the shade of a cloud cools the heat, so the song of the ruthless is silenced. like heat in a dry place. You subdue the noise of the foreigners; as heat by the shade of a cloud, so the song of the ruthless is put down. and like the heat of the desert. You silence the uproar of foreigners; as heat is reduced by the shadow of a cloud, so the song of the ruthless is stilled.
6 On this mountain the LORD {YHWH} of Hosts will prepare a lavish banquet for all the peoples, a feast of aged wine, of choice meat, of finely aged wine. On this mountain the LORD of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wine, of rich food full of marrow, of aged wine well refined. On this mountain the LORD Almighty will prepare a feast of rich food for all peoples, a banquet of aged wine— the best of meats and the finest of wines.
7 On this mountain He will swallow up the shroud that enfolds all peoples, the sheet that covers all nations; And he will swallow up on this mountain the covering that is cast over all peoples, the veil that is spread over all nations. On this mountain he will destroy the shroud that enfolds all peoples, the sheet that covers all nations;
8 He will swallow up death forever (He will swallow up death in victory). The Lord GOD {Adonai YHWH} will wipe away the tears from every face and remove the disgrace of His people from the whole earth. For the LORD {YHWH} has spoken. He will swallow up death forever; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the LORD has spoken. he will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign LORD will wipe away the tears from all faces; he will remove his people’s disgrace from all the earth. The LORD has spoken.
9 And in that day it will be said, “Surely this is our God {Elohenu}; we have waited for Him, and He has saved us. This is the LORD {YHWH} for whom we have waited. Let us rejoice and be glad in His salvation.” It will be said on that day, “Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us. This is the LORD; we have waited for him; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.” In that day they will say, “Surely this is our God; we trusted in him, and he saved us. This is the LORD, we trusted in him; let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation.”
10 For the hand of the LORD {YHWH} will rest on this mountain. But Moab (of his father) will be trampled in his place as straw is trodden into the dung pile. For the hand of the LORD will rest on this mountain, and Moab shall be trampled down in his place, as straw is trampled down in a dunghill. The hand of the LORD will rest on this mountain; but Moab will be trampled in their land as straw is trampled down in the manure.
11 He will spread out his hands within it, as a swimmer spreads his arms to swim. His pride will be brought low, despite (along with) the skill of his hands. And he will spread out his hands in the midst of it as a swimmer spreads his hands out to swim, but the LORD will lay low his pompous pride together with the skill of his hands. They will stretch out their hands in it, as swimmers stretch out their hands to swim. God will bring down their pride despite the cleverness of their hands.
12 The high-walled (height) fortress will be brought down, cast to the ground, into the dust. And the high fortifications of his walls he will bring down, lay low, and cast to the ground, to the dust. He will bring down your high fortified walls and lay them low; he will bring them down to the ground, to the very dust.
