The burden of Damascus: “Behold, Damascus is being turned aside as a city, and it has become a heap of ruins. An oracle concerning Damascus. Behold, Damascus will cease to be a city and will become a heap of ruins. A prophecy against Damascus: “See, Damascus will no longer be a city but will become a heap of ruins.
The cities of Aroer are forsaken; they will be for flocks to lie down, and no one will frighten them. The cities of Aroer are deserted; they will be for flocks, which will lie down, and none will make them afraid. The cities of Aroer will be deserted and left to flocks, which will lie down, with no one to make them afraid.
The fortress will cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus; and the remnant of Aram will become like the glory of the sons of Israel,” a declaration of YHWH of hosts. The fortress will disappear from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus; and the remnant of Syria will be like the glory of the children of Israel, declares the LORD of hosts. The fortified city will disappear from Ephraim, and royal power from Damascus; the remnant of Aram will be like the glory of the Israelites,” declares the LORD Almighty.
“And it will come to pass in that day, that the glory of Jacob will hang low, and the fatness of his flesh will become lean; And in that day the glory of Jacob will be brought low, and the fat of his flesh will grow lean. “In that day the glory of Jacob will fade; the fat of his body will waste away.
and it will be as the gathering of the harvester of the standing grain, when his arm harvests the ears; and it will be as the gathering of the ears in the Valley of Rephaim; And it shall be as when the reaper gathers standing grain and his arm harvests the ears, and as when one gleans the ears of grain in the Valley of Rephaim. It will be as when reapers harvest the standing grain, gathering the grain in their arms— as when someone gleans heads of grain in the Valley of Rephaim.
and there will be left over in it gleanings, like the shaking of an olive tree, two or three berries at the top of the bough, four or five bearing fruit in its branches.” A declaration of YHWH God of Israel. Gleanings will be left in it, as when an olive tree is beaten— two or three berries in the top of the highest bough, four or five on the branches of a fruit tree, declares the LORD God of Israel. Yet some gleanings will remain, as when an olive tree is beaten, leaving two or three olives on the topmost branches, four or five on the fruitful boughs,” declares the LORD, the God of Israel.
In that day man will gaze upon his Maker, and his eyes will look unto the Holy One of Israel. In that day man will look to his Maker, and his eyes will look on the Holy One of Israel. In that day people will look to their Maker and turn their eyes to the Holy One of Israel.
And he will not look to the altars, the work of his hands, and that which his fingers have made he will not see—the Asherahs and incense altars. He will not look to the altars, the work of his hands, and he will not look on what his own fingers have made, either the Asherim or the altars of incense. They will not look to the altars, the work of their hands, and they will have no regard for the Asherah poles and the incense altars their fingers have made.
In that day the cities of his strength will be like the abandoned forest and summit that they abandoned before the faces of the sons of Israel; and it will be a desolation. In that day their strong cities will be like the deserted places of the wooded heights and the hilltops, which they deserted because of the children of Israel, and there will be desolation. In that day their strong cities, which they left because of the Israelites, will be like places abandoned to thickets and undergrowth. And all will be desolation.
For you have forgotten the God of your salvation, and the Rock of your refuge you have not remembered. Upon thus you may plant plants of pleasantness, and you may sow vines of a stranger, For you have forgotten the God of your salvation and have not remembered the Rock of your refuge; therefore, though you plant pleasant plants and sow the vine-branch of a stranger, You have forgotten God your Savior; you have not remembered the Rock, your fortress. Therefore, though you set out the finest plants and plant imported vines,
on the day you plant you make it grow, and in the morning of your sowing, you make it sprout; the harvest will flee on the day of the coming of sickness and pain that cannot be cured. though you make them grow on the day that you plant them, and make them blossom in the morning that you sow, yet the harvest will flee away in a day of grief and incurable pain. though on the day you set them out, you make them grow, and on the morning when you plant them, you bring them to bud, yet the harvest will be as nothing in the day of disease and incurable pain.
Woe to the multitude of many peoples—like the roaring of seas they roar! And the rumble of nations—like the rumbling of mighty waters they are crashing! Ah, the thunder of many peoples; they thunder like the thundering of the sea! Ah, the roar of nations; they roar like the roaring of mighty waters! Woe to the many nations that rage— they rage like the raging sea! Woe to the peoples who roar— they roar like the roaring of great waters!
The peoples—like the rumbling of many waters they are crashing, and He will rebuke them, and they will flee far away, and they will be chased like chaff on the mountains before the face of the wind, and like a wheel of dust before the face of the whirlwind. The nations roar like the roaring of many waters, but he will rebuke them, and they will flee far away, chased like chaff on the mountains before the wind and whirling dust before the storm. Although the peoples roar like the roar of surging waters, when he rebukes them they flee far away, driven before the wind like chaff on the hills, like tumbleweed before a gale.
And at the time of evening, behold the terror; before the morning he is no more! This is the portion of those plundering us and the lot of those preying on us. At evening time, behold, terror! Before morning, they are no more! This is the portion of those who loot us, and the lot of those who plunder us. In the evening, sudden terror! Before the morning, they are gone! This is the portion of those who loot us, the lot of those who plunder us.
