1 Let brotherly loue continue. Let brotherly love continue. Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters.
2 Be not forgetfull to lodge straungers: For therby some hauyng lodged Angels, were vnawares therof. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.
3 Remember them that are in bondes, as bounde with them: And them which suffer aduersitie, as also ye your selues beyng in the body suffered aduersitie . Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them, and those who are mistreated, since you also are in the body. Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.
4 Wedlocke is honorable among all men, and the bed vndefiled: But whoremongers and adulterers God wyll iudge. Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous. Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.
5 Let your conuersation be without couetousnesse, beyng content with such thynges as ye haue. For he hath sayde: I wyll not fayle thee, neither forsake thee. Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”
6 So that we may boldely saye, the Lorde is my helper, and I wyll not feare what man way do vnto me. So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?” So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”
7 Remember them which haue the ouersyght of you, which haue spoken vnto you the worde of God: Whose ende of conuersation ye consideryng, folowe their fayth. Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God. Consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith. Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. 9 Be not caryed about with diuers & strange doctrines: For it is a good thing that the heart be stablisshed with grace, & not with meates, which haue not profited the that haue ben occupied therin. Do not be led away by diverse and strange teachings, for it is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace, not by foods, which have not benefited those devoted to them. Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings. It is good for our hearts to be strengthened by grace, not by eating ceremonial foods, which is of no benefit to those who do so.
10 We haue an aulter, wherof they haue no ryght to eate which serue in the tabernacle. We have an altar from which those who serve the tent have no right to eat. We have an altar from which those who minister at the tabernacle have no right to eat.
11 For the bodyes of those beastes whose blood is brought into the holy place by the hie priest for sinne, are burnt without the tentes. For the bodies of those animals whose blood is brought into the holy places by the high priest as a sacrifice for sin are burned outside the camp. The high priest carries the blood of animals into the Most Holy Place as a sin offering, but the bodies are burned outside the camp.
12 Therfore Iesus also, that he myght sanctifie ye people with his owne blood, suffered without the gate. So Jesus also suffered outside the gate in order to sanctify the people through his own blood. And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate to make the people holy through his own blood.
13 Let vs go foorth therfore vnto hym out of the tentes, bearyng his reproche. Therefore let us go to him outside the camp and bear the reproach he endured. Let us, then, go to him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace he bore.
14 For here haue we no continuyng citie: but we seke one to come. For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come. For here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come.
15 By hym therfore, do we offer sacrifice of laude alwayes to God: that is, the fruite of lippes confessyng his name. Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name. Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name.
16 To do good & to distribute forget not, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God. And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.
17 Obey them that haue the ouersight of you, and submit your selues: for they watche for your soules, as they that must geue accomptes, that they may do it with ioy, and not with griefe: for that is vnprofitable for you. Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you. Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you.
18 Pray for vs: For we trust we haue a good conscience, in all thynges wyllyng to lyue honestlie. Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a clear conscience, desiring to act honorably in all things. Pray for us. We are sure that we have a clear conscience and desire to live honorably in every way.
19 But I desire you the more earnestlie that ye so do, that I may be restored to you the sooner. I urge you the more earnestly to do this in order that I may be restored to you the sooner. I particularly urge you to pray so that I may be restored to you soon.
20 The God of peace, that brought agayne from the dead our Lorde Iesus the great sheephearde of the sheepe, through the blood of the euerlasting couenaunt, Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep,
21 Make you perfect in all good workes to do his wyll, workyng in you that which is pleasaunt in his sight, through Iesus Christe, to whom be prayse for euer and euer. Amen. equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen. equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
22 And I beseche you brethren, suffer the worde of exhortation: for I haue written vnto you in fewe wordes. I appeal to you, brothers, bear with my word of exhortation, for I have written to you briefly. Brothers and sisters, I urge you to bear with my word of exhortation, for in fact I have written to you quite briefly.
23 Knowe ye, that brother Timothe is delyuered: With whom (yf he come shortly) I wyll see you. You should know that our brother Timothy has been released, with whom I shall see you if he comes soon. I want you to know that our brother Timothy has been released. If he arrives soon, I will come with him to see you.
24 Salute all them that haue the ouersight of you, and all the saintes. They of Italie salute you. Greet all your leaders and all the saints. Those who come from Italy send you greetings. Greet all your leaders and all the Lord’s people. Those from Italy send you their greetings.
