The LORD visited Sarah just as he had said he would and did for Sarah what he had promised. The LORD visited Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did to Sarah as he had promised. Now the LORD was gracious to Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did for Sarah what he had promised.
So Sarah became pregnant and bore Abraham a son in his old age at the appointed time that God had told him. And Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age at the time of which God had spoken to him. Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised him.
Abraham named his son--whom Sarah bore to him--Isaac. Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him, whom Sarah bore him, Isaac. Abraham gave the name Isaac to the son Sarah bore him.
When his son Isaac was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him just as God had commanded him to do. And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him. When his son Isaac was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him, as God commanded him.
(Now Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.) Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him. Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.
Sarah said, |God has made me laugh. Everyone who hears about this will laugh with me.| And Sarah said, “God has made laughter for me; everyone who hears will laugh over me.” Sarah said, “God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me.”
She went on to say, |Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have given birth to a son for him in his old age!| And she said, “Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age.” And she added, “Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age.”
The child grew and was weaned. Abraham prepared a great feast on the day that Isaac was weaned. And the child grew and was weaned. And Abraham made a great feast on the day that Isaac was weaned. The child grew and was weaned, and on the day Isaac was weaned Abraham held a great feast.
But Sarah noticed the son of Hagar the Egyptian--the son whom Hagar had borne to Abraham--mocking. But Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, laughing. But Sarah saw that the son whom Hagar the Egyptian had borne to Abraham was mocking,
So she said to Abraham, |Banish that slave woman and her son, for the son of that slave woman will not be an heir along with my son Isaac!| So she said to Abraham, “Cast out this slave woman with her son, for the son of this slave woman shall not be heir with my son Isaac.” and she said to Abraham, “Get rid of that slave woman and her son, for that woman’s son will never share in the inheritance with my son Isaac.”
Sarah's demand displeased Abraham greatly because Ishmael was his son. And the thing was very displeasing to Abraham on account of his son. The matter distressed Abraham greatly because it concerned his son.
But God said to Abraham, |Do not be upset about the boy or your slave wife. Do all that Sarah is telling you because through Isaac your descendants will be counted. But God said to Abraham, “Be not displeased because of the boy and because of your slave woman. Whatever Sarah says to you, do as she tells you, for through Isaac shall your offspring be named. But God said to him, “Do not be so distressed about the boy and your slave woman. Listen to whatever Sarah tells you, because it is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.
But I will also make the son of the slave wife into a great nation, for he is your descendant too.| And I will make a nation of the son of the slave woman also, because he is your offspring.” I will make the son of the slave into a nation also, because he is your offspring.”
Early in the morning Abraham took some food and a skin of water and gave them to Hagar. He put them on her shoulders, gave her the child, and sent her away. So she went wandering aimlessly through the wilderness of Beer Sheba. So Abraham rose early in the morning and took bread and a skin of water and gave it to Hagar, putting it on her shoulder, along with the child, and sent her away. And she departed and wandered in the wilderness of Beersheba. Early the next morning Abraham took some food and a skin of water and gave them to Hagar. He set them on her shoulders and then sent her off with the boy. She went on her way and wandered in the Desert of Beersheba.
When the water in the skin was gone, she shoved the child under one of the shrubs. When the water in the skin was gone, she put the child under one of the bushes. When the water in the skin was gone, she put the boy under one of the bushes.
Then she went and sat down by herself across from him at quite a distance, about a bowshot away; for she thought, |I refuse to watch the child die.| So she sat across from him and wept uncontrollably. Then she went and sat down opposite him a good way off, about the distance of a bowshot, for she said, “Let me not look on the death of the child.” And as she sat opposite him, she lifted up her voice and wept. Then she went off and sat down about a bowshot away, for she thought, “I cannot watch the boy die.” And as she sat there, she began to sob.
But God heard the boy's voice. The angel of God called to Hagar from heaven and asked her, |What is the matter, Hagar? Don't be afraid, for God has heard the boy's voice right where he is crying. And God heard the voice of the boy, and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven and said to her, “What troubles you, Hagar? Fear not, for God has heard the voice of the boy where he is. God heard the boy crying, and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven and said to her, “What is the matter, Hagar? Do not be afraid; God has heard the boy crying as he lies there.
Get up! Help the boy up and hold him by the hand, for I will make him into a great nation.| Up! Lift up the boy, and hold him fast with your hand, for I will make him into a great nation.” Lift the boy up and take him by the hand, for I will make him into a great nation.”
